The most suitable weaning time for piglets
The weaning time of piglets is related to the annual litter size of sows and the number of live piglets. In production practice, we can judge whether piglets are suitable for weaning according to the following aspects.
Piglets must grow and develop well.
The body weight of piglets with good growth and development should not be less than 5 kg at 3 weeks old, 6 kg at 4 weeks old and 7 kg at 5 weeks old. Otherwise, it indicates that the growth and development of piglets is poor, and weaning should be delayed. In particular, it should be noted that whenever weaned, piglets must weigh more than 5 kilograms. Otherwise, the mortality rate of piglets is high and the survival rate is low after weaning.
The feed of piglets should have certain feeding ability.
After weaning, all the nutrients needed by piglets come from feed. if the feed ability is poor, it is easy to cause nutrition deficiency, hinder growth and development, or even die. Therefore, piglets should have a certain ability to feed before weaning, and the daily dry feed intake of piglets should be more than 150 grams.
Weaning age must be appropriate
The weaning age is earlier than 21 days old, the resistance of piglets is poor, it is easy to be infected with diseases, and the survival rate is low after weaning. According to the reality of rural areas in China, weaning at the age of 35 days is more suitable, if the feeding condition is poor, it can be extended to 42 days old, and those with good feeding conditions can be weaned as early as 28 days old. Regardless of feeding conditions, blindly pursuing early weaning is not worth the loss.
The breeding conditions of piglets are good.
After weaning, piglets generally feel uneasy and often rarely eat or even do not eat at the initial stage of weaning, so their resistance will decrease. Piglets should avoid bad weather such as strong wind and heavy rain when weaning. The temperature of pigsty should not be lower than 18 ℃. It should be warm and dry. If the ambient temperature is too low, warm measures such as thickening bedding grass and installing infrared lights should be taken. After weaning, piglets should be kept in the original enclosure, and the feed formula should be guaranteed to meet the nutritional needs of piglets and ensure the full price of feed.
Piglets must be healthy
If the piglets are weaned during the period of illness, not only the feed intake ability will be reduced after weaning, but also the growth and development will be seriously hindered, and the stress caused by weaning will affect the therapeutic effect and even aggravate the disease. Therefore, when weaning, piglets must be healthy and disease-free.
It is not appropriate to be weaned during immunization and castration
Immune injection and castration, coupled with the stress of weaning, will often aggravate the discomfort of piglets after weaning, which is not conducive to the safe weaning of piglets, and will affect the immune effect, so weaning should be separated from immune injection and castration for a period of time to facilitate piglets to get through weaning smoothly.
