With the arrival of delivery time, parturient sows have different symptoms. An accurate grasp of the delivery time of sows will help to prepare for delivery and deliver on the spot, and improve the survival rate of piglets. The average gestation period of sows is 114 days, which is advanced or delayed due to individual differences, so it is necessary to observe whether the sows have pre-partum symptoms at any time after entering the parturition pen.

3-5 days before delivery, the vulva is red, swollen and relaxed, with mucus flowing out, and the tail root is sunken on both sides; the breast is swollen, glossy red and shiny (especially in the first birth sow), the nipples on both sides are thick and long, and the extension is obviously eight-shaped, one or two days before delivery, the front nipples can squeeze out milk, and when the last pair of nipples can extrude thick milk, the sows will give birth in about two hours.

For 6-12 hours before delivery, sows often pick up grass for nests, and when there is no grass to pick up nests, they also use their mouths to arch the ground, and the front hoof grits are in the shape of a nest. Sows are nervous and lie down from time to time, suddenly stop eating, frequently defecate and urinate, and the amount of softness is small. When thin bloody mucus flows out of the vulva, it shows that the sow has "broken water" and is about to give birth in half an hour. In production practice, sows are often used to pick up grass as their nests, and the last pair of nipples extrude thick milk and spray it out as the main sign to judge that sows are about to give birth.
