Stone frog is one of the largest food frogs in China, scientific name is thorn chest frog, also known as stone chicken, stone clam, flying fish, etc., its nutritional value can be comparable to wild turtle, but with wild stone frog more and more difficult to catch in the deep forest, at present gradually developed into a more market prospect of breeding projects, let's take a look at wild stone frog breeding technology!

growth habit

Stone frogs like to burrow under damp and quiet rock walls with little light, near water source and shade. They have the habit of living in groups and foraging at night. They are active at night. They are weak and stable at ordinary times. They are active frequently in the breeding peak. They have the behavior of singing and dragging. They like to eat live bait such as earthworms, maggots, grasshoppers, ants, loaches, river crabs, mole crickets, etc. They are cold-blooded animals. When the water temperature drops to 10℃, they enter hibernation. The hibernation period is about 4 months. After hibernation, their weight will be moderately reduced.

frog pond construction

Stone frog is a burrowing animal like shade, clean water is required, artificial pool construction should be close to mountain springs, shady flat land. Frog ponds are generally masonry structures with an area of 8~10 square meters. The pool is 1.2 meters high, and the walls and bottom are leveled with concrete to retain water and prevent escape. According to the requirements of adult frog, juvenile frog and tadpole for water depth in different growth periods, 4 drainage holes are set at 4 cm, 6 cm and 12 cm and at the bottom of the pool respectively. The center of the pool is placed vertically and horizontally with bricks at intervals of 4 cm. The top is covered with multiple cement plates to form a cave. The top is used as a food table. Some aquatic plants are planted around the food table. The area of the food table shall not exceed 1 ~ 3 of the whole pool. The height of the cave shall be 1~3 cm higher than the highest water surface.

Origin of frog species

According to the nocturnal predation characteristics of stone frogs, it is most suitable to catch them at night in March and September. Stone frogs like to eat fire insects, sensitive to flickering light, catch with cigarettes, incense, etc. in the stone frogs live in the mountain pond, ditch swing. When you hear the sound of stone frogs landing, immediately use flashlight to catch them.

parent frog rearing

The female frog is selected as parent frog with more than 100 grams, round abdomen and thighs, strong jumping ability and intact skin, and the male frog is selected as parent frog with more than 150 grams, obvious chest thorn, strong holding ability and intact skin, the ratio of male to female is 1:1, and the density is 5 - 10 pairs/square meter. The feed of parent frogs is mainly fresh insects and small animals. They are fed at 8~10 pm, and the feeding amount is 2~5% of the group weight. They are fed more in sunny days and less in rainy and low temperature days. Pay attention to changing water frequently, keep the water quality clean and feed diversified.

egg hatching

When the water temperature rises by 15℃ in the spring of the second year, the stone frog begins to prey after hibernation. At this time, the food intake of the parent frog should be ensured. When the water temperature rises to 18℃, female and male frogs lay eggs in pairs, fertilized in vitro, and the fertilized eggs absorb water and swell to stick to the cave wall. The fertilized eggs can be taken out and put into the hatchery, or the female and male frogs can be removed after childbirth, and the water depth can be increased for floating. During the incubation period, use micro-running water and cover the top of the pool with mosquito net to prevent snake mosquito larvae from harming frog eggs. Tadpoles can emerge from the membrane in about 6~7 days when the water temperature is 18~25℃.
