Umbilical cord disinfection

Over the years, some lambs have suffered from tetanus, mainly because sheep farmers lack knowledge of disease prevention. When delivering sheep, they cut the umbilical cord with unsterilized scissors or ligate the umbilical cord with unclean thread, or even ligate the umbilical cord without disinfection. Tetanus occurs through umbilical infection. Therefore, after the lamb is born, the umbilical wound is washed with 3% hydrogen peroxide, the umbilical cord is broken with sterilized scissors, 5 cm away from the umbilical cord is fastened with sterilized thread, and the umbilical end is coated with 3% iodine tincture to kill germs. The lambs can also be subcutaneously injected with 1500 units of tetanus antitoxin to make the sheep immune automatically.

Dehumidification and warmth

Immediately after giving birth, wipe off the mucus in the mouth, nose, eyes and ears with a clean cloth, and let the ewe lick the whole body of the lamb. When the ewe does not want to lick, she can sprinkle some wheat bran on the lamb, or apply the mucus on the ewe's mouth to induce it to lick the lamb. And make a fire to keep warm, quickly dry the wool of the lamb to keep warm.

Rescue

In case of false death of a lamb, wipe off its mouth and nostril dirt with a clean white cloth immediately. If the lamb has difficulty breathing mucus, hold its hind legs and hang it and pat it on the chest to make it spit out mucus. If it is ineffective, the rubber catheter can be put into its throat to suck out mucus. In cold weather, when the lamb is frozen and stiff, while lighting the fire to keep warm, quickly soak the hot water with 38 ℃ of warm water, gradually change the hot water into 40-42 ℃, soak for 20-30 minutes, then pull it out and dry it quickly and put it in the warm place of the fire.

Eat milk as early as possible

After the lamb is born, let it eat colostrum early to get higher maternal antibodies. The milk secreted by ewes within one week after delivery is called colostrum, which is a very ideal natural food for newborn lambs. Colostrum has high concentration, high nutrient content, and contains a lot of antibody globulin and rich mineral elements, which can increase the disease resistance of lambs and promote the healthy growth of lambs.

Protect against cold and keep warm

The lamb leaves the mother at first, the body temperature regulation center is not yet fully developed, and the spring climate is changeable, if you do not pay attention to the cold and keep warm, it is easy to catch cold and get sick. The lamb house should be built in a place that is leeward and sunny. The house should frequently discharge feces and urine, change the dry soil frequently and clean it up. The lamb habitat is covered with hay and dry soil, and when the snow is rainy and cold, the doors and windows of the lamb should be covered with thick straw curtains. And light a fire to keep warm, but also prevent Rain Water from drenching the lambs, let the sheep go outdoors during the day, receive fresh air and sunshine, and bask in the sun more to increase the contents of vitamin D and cholesterol in the body, promote the lamb's bone development, and enhance its resistance. to create a clean and warm living environment for the lamb.

Timely supplementary feeding

In the first month, lambs mainly rely on breast milk for nutrition, but with the increase of age and the expansion of stomach volume, maternal milk alone can not meet the nutritional needs of lamb growth and development, so forage must be fed in time. The lamb was fed with forage at 15 days after birth, mainly high-quality fresh forage, hanging fresh hay in the air or allowing it to feed freely. From 20 days old, prepare the food and grind the fried beans. Add a few drops of goat's milk, mix it with warm water into a paste, put it into the trough and let the lambs smell and eat freely, about 20 grams a day, so that you can learn to eat in 2-4 days, and then gradually change the open food into formula feed.
