Let's take a look at the prevention and treatment of sheep mastitis.

Causes of mastitis in sheep

Sheep mastitis is often seen in unskilled milking techniques, damaging nipples and breast bodies, or because milking tools are unhygienic, causing breast bacterial infection, and can also be seen in the process of hysteritis, foot-and-mouth disease, tuberculosis, septicemia and so on.

Clinical symptoms of sheep mastitis

1. Acute mastitis: fever, enlargement, pain in the diseased breast area, swelling of the breast, thinning of the milk, mixed with flocs or granules, in severe cases, the milk can be yellowish watery or with red watery mucus. At the same time, there may be different degrees of systemic symptoms, such as loss of appetite or abstinence, rumen peristalsis and ruminating stagnation, body temperature as high as 41-42 ℃, accelerated respiration and heartbeat, eye conjunctival flushing. When it is serious, the eyeball is sunken and the spirit is paralyzed. It is difficult for sick sheep to rise and lie down, sometimes they stand unwilling to lie on the ground, sometimes their body temperature rises for several days, they lose weight sharply, and they often die of septicemia.

2. Chronic mastitis: most of them are caused by acute type without complete cure, and there are generally no systemic symptoms. When breast palpation, hard lumps of different sizes are found, milk is thin and light, and milk production is significantly reduced. There are granular or flocculent clots in the milk.

Treatment of sheep mastitis

1. Use 80, 000 units of gentamicin, or 400000 units of penicillin, 20 ml of distilled water, inject it through the nipple twice with a nipple needle twice a day, disinfect the nipple with alcohol cotton balls before injection, and squeeze out the milk in the breast, massage the breast after injection, or penicillin 800000 units, 0.5% procaine 40 ml, in the base of the breast or between the abdominal wall, use a closed needle 4 cm into the needle. It was injected 3 times and 4 times and closed once every 2 days.

2. Cold compress can be used in the initial stage of mastitis, hot compress can be used in the middle and later stage, or 10% fish stone ester alcohol or 10% fish gypsum ointment can be applied externally. In addition to suppurative mastitis, you can cooperate with breast massage before external application. 100 grams of dandelion can be used in the early stage of mastitis, 40 grams of antler cream is used in the middle stage, and 10 grams of safflower and 40 grams of antler cream are used in the later stage.

3. Systemic infections with extremely swollen breasts and high fever should be treated with antibiotics such as kanamycin, gentamicin and penicillin in time.

Preventive measures of Sheep mastitis

1. Wash the breasts and nipples with warm water before each milking, dry them with a dry towel, and after milking, soak or wipe the nipples with 0.2-0.3% chloramine T solution or 0.05% bromogeramine.

2. Improve the sanitary conditions of the sheepfold, sweep the dirt of the pen, keep the breasts clean, keep the sick sheep in isolation, milk alone, prevent the spread of germs, and disinfect the shed regularly.

3. Don't stop milk too quickly in the later period of pregnancy, and inject antibiotics into each nipple tube after stopping milk.
