Let's take a look at what kind of forage grass to grow sheep.

Alfalfa

Alfalfa, referred to as alfalfa, alfalfa, etc., belongs to perennial herbaceous plants. It is the earliest and largest forage grass in the world, and is recognized as the king of forage grass. It is also a kind of excellent forage grass with the longest cultivation history and the widest distribution area in China. Alfalfa is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals, and the amino acid composition of its protein is relatively complete. It is mainly made into hay in foreign countries and northwest China. Its products are hay, alfalfa granules, alfalfa powder, alfalfa blocks and so on. The crude egg content of these grass products is about 18%, 24%, and all kinds of livestock like to eat. In the south, due to the large amount of Rain Water and high air humidity, it is difficult to use sunlight to make hay, and it is very expensive to use energy to dry alfalfa, so it is generally recommended to feed all kinds of livestock directly with fresh alfalfa. Under the condition of good water and fertilizer, alfalfa can be cut 3-5 crops a year, and the yield of fresh alfalfa is 5000-6000 kg per mu.

Italian ryegrass

Italian ryegrass, also known as perennial ryegrass, is rich in nutrients, 13.7% crude white matter in stem and leaf dry matter, good quality and good palatability. it is suitable for feeding all kinds of livestock, including silage and hay, but it is suitable for fresh feeding in the south. It has the characteristics of long growth period, rapid growth, early cutting time and strong regeneration ability.

Chicory

Chicory is a perennial herb of Compositae, which can be used for 10-25 years after sowing. Its first characteristic is that it has strong adaptability and is suitable for planting in various parts of the south. Second, it has a long cycle and can be cut from April to November every year in the south. Third, diseases and insect pests cut less, usually only in low-lying areas prone to root rot, rarely other diseases and insect pests. Fourth, it has a wide range of uses, which can not only be used as feed but also be processed into vegetables. The dry matter of chicory contains 17-21% crude protein, and the essential amino acids for animals are high and complete. Cattle, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens and geese all like to eat, which is most suitable for green feeding. In the south, 4-6 crops can be cut every year, and the annual yield of fresh grass per mu is 8000-10000 kg.

Hybrid Sudan grass

Hybrid Sudan grass is derived from sorghum and Sudan grass and is an annual herbaceous plant. It is suitable for planting in various parts of our province because of its drought resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance. The hay contains 15.3% crude protein, and herbivorous livestock like to eat it. It is also a high-quality feed for herbivorous fish. It is generally cut 6-7 crops per mu, yielding 10000 kg of fresh grass per mu, which is more than 20% higher than that of Sudan grass.
