Pork tapeworm is the main human parasitic tapeworm in China, also known as Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, and so on. It is called white worm or white worm in ancient medical books. People are infected by eating uncooked pork containing cysticercus. It can also cause cysticercosis in human muscles, brain, eyes and so on. Let's take a look at whether pork tapeworm can be killed at high temperature.

Can pork tapeworm be killed at high temperature?

Pork tapeworms can be killed at high temperatures. The eggs of pork tapeworm are not resistant to high temperature, and cysticercus can be killed in 5 minutes after 54 ℃, so eat pork to ensure that it can be cooked to kill the worm. Moreover, all the metacercariae of pork could be killed after 12 hours in the environment of-12-13 ℃. Therefore, pork must be cooked before eating, and raw and cooked meat knives and boards should be used separately.

Infection pattern of pork tapeworm

1. Autoinfection: when patients with taeniasis regurgitate and vomit, intestinal reverse peristalsis turns the pregnant node back into the stomach to cause infection.

2. Autologous in vitro infection: patients mistakenly eat their own eggs and cause reinfection.

3. Allogeneic (alien) infection: caused by accidental ingestion of eggs excreted by others.

What are the hazards of pork tapeworm?

1, subcutaneous and muscular cysticercosis: cysticercus is located in subcutaneous or submucosal muscle to form nodules, nodules are round or oval under the skin, about 0.5-1.5 cm, hardness similar to cartilage, palpable, no adhesion with subcutaneous tissue, no tenderness. It often appears in batches and can gradually disappear by itself. When the infection is mild, it can be asymptomatic, and when the number of parasites is large, you can feel muscle soreness, weakness, distension, numbness or pseudomyotic disease and so on.

2. Cerebral cysticercosis: the course of cerebral cysticercosis is slow, the onset time is from 1 month to 1 year, and the longest is 30 years. Seizures, increased intracranial pressure and mental symptoms are the main symptoms, and seizures are the most common. Neurological disorders and cerebral blood flow disorders such as memory loss, vision loss and mental symptoms, others may include headache, dizziness, vomiting, confusion, aphasia, limb numbness, local convulsions, hearing impairment, mental disorders, dementia, hemiplegia and blindness.

3. Ocular cysticercosis: cysticercus can be parasitic in any part of the eye. Mild symptoms show visual impairment, worm peristalsis is common, and severe cases can be blind. When the intraocular cysticercus is alive, most patients can tolerate it, but once the cysticercus dies, the decomposition of the cysticercus can produce strong stimulation, resulting in intraocular tissue changes, vitreous opacity, retinal detachment, optic nerve atrophy, and cataract. Secondary glaucoma eventually leads to eyeball atrophy and blindness.
