Matou goats are also common in rural areas. Because of the head portraits, we all call them Matou goats. Matou goats are bred in Hunan, Hubei and other places in China. Matou goats have large size, strong physique and strong fecundity. the slaughtering rate and net meat percentage are high, the meat is delicate, and the taste is small.

Reproductive characteristics of Matou Goat

The estrus of Matou goats is generally from the first ten days of September to February of the following year, during which ewes have strong sexual desire and high conception rate. The gestation period of Matou goats is 150 days, which is mated in September and October, and lambs can be born in February and March of the following year. Lambing in spring can improve the survival rate of young lambs. Farmers should do a good job of breeding from September to October.

Feeding methods of Matou Goat

Farmers should pay attention to the raising of ewes. After ewes are pregnant, they should be fed more green juice fodder such as young forage grass and carrots, and pay attention to the addition of trace elements, vitamins and salt, and appropriately increase the amount of wheat bran in concentrate to facilitate intestinal laxation.

2-3 days before delivery, properly fed with protein-rich lactation feed such as peanut cake and soybean milk, as well as green and juicy laxative feed to prevent ewes from postpartum milk deficiency.

After giving birth to lambs, the feeding amount of root tuber, succulent feed, vitamins, calcium and phosphorus should be increased while supplying concentrate. Horsehead goats can be fed in house, that is, no grazing. The forage grass is regularly and quantitatively placed in the feed trough or pen of the sheep shed to feed the goats so that they can complete the whole process of growth, development, reproduction, fattening and so on in the shed.

Feed supply of Matou Goat

In order to raise Matou goats well, it is necessary to have sufficient feed, so we must open up a wide range of feed sources to ensure that Matou goats feed continuously all the year round. In solving the problem of the source of sheep feed, the majority of farmers have accumulated rich experience in practice, choosing green forage grasses suitable for raising sheep and forage varieties with high yield and high quality, such as hn-mc alfalfa, hn-mc rye, hn-mc clover, hn-mc Gaodan and so on.

In the case of sufficient fresh feed, Matou goat feeding should appropriately increase the proportion of bran in concentrate feed (bran should account for about 40% of the total concentrate), and the straw part of forage can be treated with silage, ammoniation, microsilage and so on. after straw feed processing, not only the palatability was changed, the digestibility was improved, and beneficial bacteria were increased, on the other hand, forage processing also solved the problems of insufficient forage and low forage quality in winter.

Enclosed sheep should also be supplemented with some concentrate, especially young sheep and pregnant, lactating ewes and breeding rams, and mutton sheep before going out. When feeding, it should be rough before fine, dry first and then green. The breeding of Matou goat should be carried out according to the principle of weak before strong and young before strong in the distribution of forage. Sheep with poor nutrition can also be singled out for supplementary feeding, and then fed with a large group after improving nutrition. Special care should be given to pregnant ewes, lambs, etc.

In the use of forage, we should first feed the grass and secondary materials, and then feed the grass and good materials, so that the sheep will not want to eat the grass after they are used to eating good grass. When replenishing the material, the material should be put into the feed trough and prevent the rush for food. Grass replenishment is best arranged on the grass rack, which can reduce the trampling waste of forage grass. If the number of sheep is small, the forage grass can also be put into the basket for feeding. (contribution: village notes)
