Pig farmers will encounter many problems in the breeding process, improper management will cause pigs to produce a variety of diseases, such as heat stroke, foot rot and so on. Among them, flatulence is the most common problem when raising pigs. This disease is generally acute and has a high mortality rate after onset. If there is no timely treatment, it will die within a few hours. Although the incidence rate of the group is not high, the loss caused to pig farmers should not be underestimated. What is the cause of flatulence? How to prevent treatment? Let's take a look.

1. Symptoms

Most flatulence does not have symptoms during the onset period. When flatulence occurs in pigs, it will be found that the pig's belly rapidly expands at a visible speed and is accompanied by painful howls. Refusing to eat and breathing loudly and rapidly, there will be cases of increased body temperature. A few sick pigs eat normally, but die the next morning, stiff, belly-distended, and accompanied by foaming at the mouth and nose. this has a great impact on the economic interests of pig farmers.

2. Causes of disease

(1) Improper feeding

The primary reason may be due to mildew of feed, because pig feed is prone to mildew when stored improperly, especially in hot and humid summer weather. When pigs eat mildewed feed, mold will rapidly grow and reproduce in the intestinal tract, producing a large number of harmful gases that pigs cannot expel, rapidly expanding in the pig stomach, squeezing blood vessels and internal organs, resulting in blood circulation failure. It causes oxygen deficiency, brain hypoxia, and eventually death from asphyxia.

(2) Constipated

If pigs are fed too much green, watery feed and are not allowed to exercise, they will develop fever and reduce food intake and cause constipation. Too much excrement in the stomach is not discharged in time to cause flatulence, especially sows are more likely to produce flatulence because of constipation. However, as long as the pig is successfully laxated, it can be treated very well.

(3) Disease

Gas-producing fungi such as Clostridium welchii and yeast can also cause acute flatulence and death in pigs, but this is a rare cause and generally occurs in pigs and fattening pigs.

3. Prevention and control measures

(1) Deferment

Found that there is a slight flatulence of the status quo can be used to open the ichthyote with alcohol, and then give sick pigs once can eliminate the gas in the stomach, but also available paraffin oil and warm water once. If it's a piglet, reduce the dosage.

(2) Manual deflation

A gastric catheter is inserted into the pig's stomach until gas is expelled. The insertion is stopped and the abdomen is slowly deflated. As the tube deflates, the abdomen is seen to shrink slowly, like a balloon deflated. After deflation, pour a little potassium permanganate into the stomach to promote excretion in the stomach. It can also be deflated with a needle between the ribs for severe flatulence.

(3) Drug treatment

If it is due to Clostridium welchii, yeast and other gas-producing bacteria caused by flatulence, available metronidazole and other drugs for quality, but also to prevent gastric acidosis.

The above is a simple introduction to flatulence. In ordinary management, we should do a good job in feeding, not feed moldy feed, clean up the residual food in the trough in time to prevent deterioration, and do a good job in disinfection of pigsty, disinfect pigsty regularly, and use metronidazole and other drugs for prevention of sick pigs. In order to reduce the incidence of flatulence, daily precautions must be taken.
