Kumquat is a fruit under kumquat, which is shaped like a miniature version of orange, so many people are called small oranges. In Guangdong, China, kumquat has the longest history of growing kumquat. The fruit of kumquat is golden yellow after ripening, has a very strong fragrance, and has high ornamental value. And it is also rich in vitamin C, which can be used as an appetizer and skin care, and the economic value of planting is considerable. So what aspects should be paid attention to in the process of growing kumquat? Let's have a look!

1. Pruning

The plant of kumquat is relatively small, basically no more than 3 meters, suitable pruning in the planting process is the key to ensure high yield. Useless branches such as overgrown branches, withered branches and diseased branches should be cut off. Keep about four well-growing fruiting branches, each with no more than three flower buds, and cut them off. The aim is to control the tree shape and increase the yield. In the flowering period, the excess flowers should also be cut off to reduce the nutrient supply.

2. Watering

Kumquat likes water but is not resistant to waterlogging. if there is too much water in the orchard, it will easily lead to stagnant water and rot, so it is necessary to maintain an appropriate amount of moisture in the planting process. In a dry spring environment, spray water on the leaves at least once a day to increase the relative humidity in the air. Watering at least twice a day in summer, avoid watering during flowering to prevent flowers from rotten with water and affect yield.

3. Fertilization

Kumquat needs a lot of nutrition from sowing to ripening, and it is a kind of fruit that likes to be fat. Before planting, the base fertilizer was fully applied and fully mixed with the soil to improve soil fertility, promote nutrient absorption of kumquat seedlings and accelerate the growth rate. More phosphate fertilizer should be applied in summer, which is beneficial to the formation of buds and the number of fruits. According to the growth rate and soil fertility, proper topdressing should not be overapplied, which will have a certain effect on the growth of kumquat.

4. Pest control

According to the experience of planting kumquat in China for such a long time, there is no disease for the time being, and only pests are harmful to the growth of kumquat. But it does not mean that kumquat does not have disease harm, we should regularly disinfect the orchard, clean up dead and diseased branches, and do a good job in cleaning up the garden in winter. Pest control can spray dichlorvos and other pesticides to kill eggs. If any abnormal situation is found, check and take corresponding measures in time.

5. Lighting

Kumquat growth needs a lot of light time, so try to choose sunny places when planting. If there is not enough sunlight, it will make the branches and leaves of kumquat grow, affecting the flowering and fruiting rate of kumquat. However, the light intensity should not be too large, for example, in summer, shading should be done appropriately for the plant, shading should be carried out at noon when the light intensity is maximum, and the shading facilities can be removed in the afternoon. It is necessary to replenish the light manually in case of continuous cloudy and rainy weather.

The above five points are what we need to pay attention to when growing kumquat. Although there is no disease, we should be prepared. Diseases harmful to fruits are usually anthracnose and canker, etc., learn the knowledge of disease treatment, so as to avoid diseases. There is still a certain market for kumquat, and you can try it if you have the conditions. For more information, please continue to follow the pro-agricultural network!
