Last Updated: 2024/11/22, Swallow palm itself is actually not poisonous, but its juice contains toxins, so usually pay more attention, if not careful to touch the skin will hurt and itch, if it enters the eyes will also be blind. Despite this, there are still many people who like to raise it, but it is necessary to choose the soil and appropriate fertilizer when raising it.

Is it poisonous?

It itself is not poisonous, but the juice is poisonous.

It used to grow in Africa and likes sunny and warm places very much. After a period of cultivation, it has been widely used as a family potted plant, but some people say it is poisonous. That's because its juice has a lot of toxins, and when people's skin accidentally touches it, it becomes itchy and painful, and what's more, if the juice accidentally enters the eyes, it can lead to blindness. So be careful when raising, don't touch the juice, especially if you have children at home.

Second, how to raise it

1. Soil: although its juice is poisonous, as long as it is not touched, it can be raised at home as a good potted plant. When raising it, first choose a suitable basin soil, where rotten leaf soil, garden soil and river sand can be mixed, while adding a little base fertilizer at the bottom of the basin, and then padding some small gravel or tiles, the soil can become loose and breathable, which is more conducive to its growth.

2. Fertilization: when spring and autumn come every year, you can give it proper topdressing once a month, but it is generally not fertilized in summer, because it is in a dormant period and requires very little fertilizer, and when the temperature is very low in winter, also stop fertilizing. When fertilizing, the usual choice of fertilizer is compound fertilizer or rotten organic fertilizer, which will bring it enough nutrients.
