This 823 tropical depression hit the animal husbandry industry in southern Taiwan hard. On the 23rd and 24th, torrential rain poured into livestock farms, resulting in a large number of pigs and poultry drowning, and pig carcasses stacked into mountains. The animal production loss in Chiayi County is the most serious, with an initial estimate of 126.64 million yuan, followed by Tainan City (46 million), Kaohsiung City (2.4 million), Yunlin County (1.27 million) and Pingtung County (470000). On the 25th, most areas began to clear up and finally started clearing operations, but the stagnant water in some livestock houses did not disappear until the flood receded on the 26th before they were able to report to the outside world.

A total of 5000 pigs were lost in Chiayi County from the 25th to the 25th, of which Lianxin Animal Farm in Puzi City accounted for half. Lin Yiru, director of the Livestock Disease Prevention and Control Institute in Chiayi County, said heavily that he had never seen such serious livestock and poultry damage. Although it began to clear yesterday, up to today (26), 24 hours later, the water is still very deep, and more and more pigs are moved out, but the smell is getting worse and worse, worms are growing everywhere, and the environment is getting worse and worse.

Tsai Yu-nan, the 82-year-old first-generation boss of Surekam, who has been a pig farmer for more than 30 years, stared wearily at every pig who was sent to make an evolutionary car, with distressed eyes and a sour nose muttering, "these are very high-quality pigs."

Committee of Agriculture: cross-ministry will assist damaged pastures

Xie Yaoqing, director of the Animal Husbandry Department of the Council of Agriculture, said that the central government has initiated inter-ministerial cooperation to assist damaged livestock farms in dealing with related matters, and livestock carcasses will be decomposed in various ways such as composting and incineration. At the same time, livestock farms will be provided for post-disaster rehabilitation, including natural disaster relief loans for affected households, as well as intervention and guidance from post-disaster rehabilitation technical service teams. On the other hand, after the clearance and transportation of dead and waste livestock and poultry is completed, the local prevention and control office will be responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of pastures to avoid the breeding of diseases and the outbreak of animal diseases.
