The unconspicuous wild weeds that used to grow in ditches and fields have now become sought-after flowers for beautifying the environment and purifying water quality after artificial introduction, domestication and propagation in the Ailian Aquatic Flower Garden of Huaihai Farm in Jiangsu Province. In early October, more than 100,000 domesticated wild aquatic flowers "onions" were sold to Qilu for local waterscape layout and water purification of rivers and lakes. So far, more than 1 million wild and domesticated flowers such as onions have been sold to all parts of the country this year.

In recent years, the demand for aquatic flowers such as onion, Phyllostachys pubescens and Changpu is increasing day by day. Ailian Garden seized the opportunity to make use of the rich wild flower germplasm resources in thousands of mu of water surface of Huaihai Farm to carry out artificial domestication and propagation. They set up a special area for domestication and breeding in the garden area, and introduced the seedlings of wild aquatic flowers into the garden area for planting. After several years of introduction and breeding, the garden has formed three series of wild flowers, namely, onion, asparagus and Changpu, with a total scale of more than 2 million plants.

Yancheng, Jiangsu Province: the sales of Ailian Aquatic Flower Garden in Huaihai Farm exceeded one million yuan.

In the first half of this year, the sales revenue of Ailian Aquatic Flower Garden in Huaihai Farm in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province reached 1.3 million yuan, a record high, and hundreds of thousands of lotus and water lilies were exported to Australia, Japan, South Korea, France and the Netherlands.

Li Jihou, the owner of "Ailian Garden", was the greening director of Jiangsu state-run Huaihai Farm before retiring. He began to raise aquatic plants in the courtyard in 1991 and started the management of aquatic plants in 1998. Starting from 2 mu of land, it has now grown to 160 mu. In the garden, there are more than 300 kinds of aquatic flowers, such as lotus, water lilies, chives, calamus, asparagus, etc., with an annual output of more than 500,000 stems of all kinds of aquatic flowers, and the products are sold to more than 10 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in Shanghai, Heilongjiang and Shandong.

Li Jihou said that in recent years, with the improvement of the living environment and scenic spots' attention to waterscape design, the demand for aquatic plants in parks, residential areas and street greening is increasing. In terms of sales channels, "Ailian Garden" blossoms more often, invests a lot in exhibitions and newspaper advertisements every year, and now has set up its own website.

When Li Jihou first started to engage in aquatic plants, there were only about 10 such nurseries in the country, all of which were relatively small in scale. Now there are more than 100 nurseries operating aquatic plants across the country, and the production area has grown from a few hundred mu in previous years to tens of thousands of mu now. The competition is fierce, and some aquatic flower varieties have been in surplus. At present, the proportion of market demand for lotus and water lilies in the market is beginning to decline, and other aquatic plants are beginning to be widely accepted by the market, so the love lotus garden has made an adjustment-Lotus and water lilies account for only 40% of production, while other aquatic plants account for 60%.
