Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Many good friends who plant potted plants at home will encounter the problem of soil hardening, and if they do not pay attention to it, it is likely to lead to nutrient deficiency due to the inability of plant roots to absorb water normally, and the plants will wither and yellow.

Many good friends who grow potted plants at home will encounter the problem of soil hardening, and if we don't pay attention to it, it may lead to lack of nutrients in the roots of the plants due to the inability to absorb water normally, wilting and yellowing the plants in light and directly leading to the death of the potted plants that we have worked so hard to grow. In the past, we used to change the basin directly when dealing with hardening, which is effective but time-consuming.

So are there any aspects and tricks that can enable us to deal with the consolidation problem without touching the ground? In the following editor, I will summarize the experience summed up by people who have grown flowers in the past few years, so that if you encounter such problems, you can have a solution.

In order to control soil consolidation, first of all, we need to know which factors are easy to cause this phenomenon. generally speaking, the reasons for soil consolidation can be summarized as follows: single soil composition, neglect of soil loosening work, heavy use of chemical fertilizer and random watering. The first two factors belong to soil problems, which need us to pay special attention from the beginning of cultivation.

The last two points mainly focus on some misunderstandings in the planting process. Getting rid of those old and bad habits in time can still be well solved, so in fact, the consolidation of basin soil is very easy to deal with, if you encounter this phenomenon, the first thing to do is not to panic, and then choose the appropriate method according to the specific situation.

So what should we do if there is a phenomenon of rigidity? Here we introduce two methods:

First of all, as we mentioned above, one of the important reasons for soil consolidation is that the composition of the soil is single, so what we need to do is to change the composition of the soil to increase its hydrophobicity and permeability. The selected material is the sand and gravel with large particles that we often talk about.

First of all, find a few thick straws (usually drink pearl milk tea) or wooden sticks, insert these into the soil to form small holes, and then pour the prepared large grains of coarse sand into them, so that flowerpots will form multiple sand columns. when watering, the water poured on the surface can infiltrate into the roots of plants in the underlying soil through these sand columns. this method is called sand column method. It is easy to learn and materials are easy to obtain.

The second method is to apply dry fertilizer to the soil surface, you can choose bean cake or peanut cake, crushed into powder, and then loosen the surface of the basin soil, and then you can sprinkle a thin layer of this powder, after spreading fertilizer, you can pour water through!

This has two advantages. on the one hand, the thin fertilizer on the surface of the basin soil will slowly ferment under the moisture of water, and new organic matter will be formed in a month or so, thus softening the consolidated soil again. secondly, the fertilizer infiltrated into the soil through the soil surface can also nourish the roots, thus providing nutrition for plant growth, of course, this is a way of fertilization after all. If your plants do not like fertilizer or the environment is hotter and drier, then this method is not recommended to be used frequently!

As for how to prevent soil hardening, planting enthusiasts can do the opposite according to the reasons we introduced in the second paragraph and try their best to avoid it! I believe that if you treat it carefully, you will be able to avoid these problems!
