One of the most controversial industries in American history is coal!
Some people say, "if you want to be non-nuclear and reduce coal, it makes me a mess."
The United States wants both nuclear power and coal, but in fact, it also makes a mess for everyone.
# break the chain of either coal or core
The United States is the country with the highest total nuclear power generation in the world, with 99 nuclear reactors generating 20% of the country's electricity; and more than 500 coal-fired power plants, accounting for 30% of the country's electricity. When the pressures of residents' health, labor rights, water, land and carbon reduction are overwhelming, the United States realizes that the transformation from coal to electricity is a top priority, and that when time and investment costs are extremely limited, renewable energy is the real way to go when security and environmental / social justice must be taken into account.
# get rid of coal addiction and move towards justice
Coal Truth interviewed community residents, climate scientists, environmental campaigners, enterprises and local government officials to discuss the impact of coal on labor rights, environment, water, air, health, etc., from mining to power generation. At the same time, he visited towns in the United States that once relied on coal mines and coal power, and recorded the transformation from coal power to renewable energy. It includes supporting and mentoring the just transformation process of local communities and workers in the development of other industries.
# Local Energy Transformation Action beyond Trump's will
Even though the demand for coal reduction in society is getting stronger and stronger, Trump still withdrew from the Paris Agreement immediately after taking office, and led conservative political and business forces to declare that they would "stop declaring war on coal." but there are still more and more cities in all states in the United States. not only ignore the policies of the federal government, but also shoulder the task of developing energy conservation and green energy. There are even hundreds of mayors across the United States who jointly set a goal of using 100% renewable energy by 2035 in 2017.
In the end, what kind of coal reduction campaign is this country that used to be heavily addicted to coal, and how does it face the challenges of various transformational processes?
