How to distinguish Nai Dong

I. leaves

Winter-resistant leaves are leathery, alternate, elliptic or ovate to Obovate, 4-10 cm long, apex acuminate or acute, base cuneate to subsemicircular, margin serrated, dark green adaxially, light abaxially, glabrous, petiole thick and short, pilose or glabrous.

II. Flowers

Enduring winter flowers solitary or 2-3 born in leaf axils or slightly apical branches, petals with 5-7 petals, pink or bright red, apex notched or concave, base connected into a tube. Stamens are more developed, the number is more than 100, filaments are white, anthers are golden.

III. Seeds

Endure winter for the capsule is round, the shell is woody, after maturity, the capsule can split naturally, scattered seeds, the seeds are dark brown or light brown, nearly spherical or after mutual extrusion into polygons, horny hard.
