Plant alias:

Phyllostachys pubescens, Rabdosia angustifolia

Latin name:

Zebrina pendula

Families and genera:

The genus Prunus of the family Caryophyllaceae

Distribution area:

Originally from Mexico.

Morphological features:

Perennial creeping herbs. The stem is slightly fleshy, much branched, creeping and easy to root on the node. Leaves semi-fleshy, petiolate, elliptic-ovate, apex short, entire, surface purplish green, mixed with silver stripes, leaf back purplish red, leaf sheath sparsely hairy, several flowers gathered at the top of the branchlet.

Growth habits:

Water: like to be wet, water once a day during the growing period, keep the soil moist, and spray water on the leaves. Reduce the amount of water in winter.

Fertilizer: liquid fertilizer can be applied once a month during the growing period.

Soil: do not choose soil.

Temperature: the suitable temperature for growth is 10-25 ℃, and the overwintering temperature is about 5 ℃.

Light: like half-overcast, avoid the hot sun.

Cultivation and breeding:

Mainly by cutting and ramet culture. The cutting time can be carried out except in summer and winter, so it is easy to take root and the survival rate is high. Ramet culture is carried out in spring and autumn, and old plants are easy to survive.

Because Prunus angustifolia can grow roots from each node under appropriate temperature and humidity, the survival rate of cutting culture is higher. Cutting can be carried out in March to the first ten days of May and September to October. The branches with strong growth are selected and cut into a section of 7 cm to 10 cm, with 2 to 4 nodes in each segment. The lower leaves are trimmed and the upper parietal or lateral leaves are retained.

Cutting can use river sand or vermiculite as culture soil, garden soil and rice chaff ash mixed in half, or garden soil and rotten leaf soil mixed in half. Load the culture soil into a prepared basin or homemade wooden box until eight parts are full and gently flatten it with a small plank. Then put the treated cuttings into the culture soil, the depth is 1 beat 3 times 1 hand 2 of the length of the cuttings, press it slightly with your hands after insertion, make the plant connect closely with the culture soil, pour enough water with a fine spray pot and put it in the shade. After keeping the basin soil moist, spray water on the leaves of a fine spray pot during the period, and the roots will grow after about 15 days.

Pick the heart in time during the growth period to promote the lateral branches of the plant and maintain it in the pot. The cuttings in spring can grow into large plants in autumn.

Landscape use:

Small potted plants. Rapid growth, one year can cover the basin, branches and leaves creeping overhang, leaves purple, green, silver alternating, dazzling. Put it on a few high shelves, let it droop naturally at the top of the cabinet, and you can also enjoy the hanging basin. Or arranged above the windowsill to make it droop to form a green curtain. Courtyard cultivation is often used for overall layout. Plant flowers and leaves can sometimes turn into green leaves, at this time, should be removed in time, so as to avoid the whole plant leaves turn green.

Cultivation methods of Prunus mume

The leaves of hanging bamboo plum are very special, the general hanging bamboo plum leaves have two green flash stripes, sandwiched with the central green part, while the two-color hanging bamboo plum and four-color hanging bamboo plum are even more special. In fact, the planting difficulty of hanging bamboo plum is not high, but the planting of four-color hanging bamboo plum is more difficult, and if you want to maintain its color, you need to pay attention to the cultivation methods.

Hanging bamboo plum

1. Lighting: Dianzhu plum needs bright light in any season to promote the plant to grow dense and bright leaves. If the light is too dark, the stem will grow slender and scattered, and the leaves will fade. But don't let the sun shine directly.

2. Temperature: Diaozhumei likes a warm environment. The temperature in spring, summer and autumn is suitable for growth, and the growth is very slow at lower temperatures. Pay attention to heat preservation when the winter temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius.

3. Watering: in the growing season, hanging bamboo plum has to wait until the topsoil is about 2. Water when it is dry at a depth of 5cm. If the potted soil is a little dry, the leaves will be more colorful. In the winter dormancy period, wait until the basin soil is half dry before watering properly.

4. Fertilization: during the active growth period, compound fertilizer dominated by nitrogen can be applied every half a month.

5. Reproduction: the old leaves of Diaozhumei are easy to fall off, making the lower part appear empty, so it is best to cultivate new plants frequently for renewal. Hanging bamboo plum is easy to take root with stem cuttings, and can even be cut with water. 5 or 6 plants should be planted together when potting.

Cultivation and management of Phyllostachys pubescens, also known as Phyllostachys pubescens, is a perennial evergreen herb of the family Anactylodes and Phyllostachys pubescens. The leaves are oval, the back of the leaves are purple, and the color of the leaves varies from variety to variety. Generally speaking, the leaves of hanging bamboo and plum have two silver-green flash stripes, holding the green part in the center. Another example is two-color hanging bamboo plum, with bronze in the middle of the leaf surface, narrower silver stripes on both sides, and four-color hanging bamboo plum, with irregular pink, green, milky white and silver stripes on the leaf surface, which is the most beautiful and the most difficult to grow. In order to grow bamboo plums well, we need to pay attention to the following problems:

First, lighting: Diaozhu plum needs bright light no matter what season to promote the plant to grow dense and bright leaves. If the light is too dark, the stem will grow slender and scattered, and the leaves will fade. But don't let the sun shine directly. Second, temperature: Diaozhumei likes a warm environment. The temperature in spring, summer and autumn is suitable for growth, and the growth is very slow at lower temperatures. Pay attention to heat preservation when the winter temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius. Third, watering: in the growing season, hanging bamboo plum should wait until the topsoil is about 2.5 cm deep dry before watering. If the potted soil is a little dry, the leaves will be more colorful. In the winter dormancy period, wait until the basin soil is half dry before watering properly. Fourth, fertilization: Diaozhu plum in the growth active period, can be applied every half a month to nitrogen-based compound fertilizer. Fifth, aquaculture: the old leaves of Diaozhumei are easy to fall off, making the lower part appear empty, so it is best to cultivate new plants for renewal. Hanging bamboo plum is easy to take root with stem cuttings, and can even be cut with water. 5 or 6 plants should be planted together when potting.
