Sabina vulgaris is a genus of Sabina vulgaris, alias: Sabina vulgaris and Platycladus orientalis are native to the south of Northeast China, North China, Japan, Korea and other places, and are cultivated in the south of North China and East China. In the same genus, the leaves of the cypress are all scaly leaves, and the end leaves of the branches are yellow; the paving dragon racket has no upright trunk, and the plants are spread on the spot, mostly phosphorus leaves.

Biological habit

Sabina vulgaris belongs to the family Cypress, which is a cultivated variety of Sabina vulgaris. Evergreen trees, up to 8 meters high, with a straight trunk, a narrow cylindrical shape and twisted branchlets, hence the name. The branchlets are dense, the leaves are dense, all are scaly leaves, the young leaves are yellowish green, and the old ones are emerald green. The cone is blue-green and the fruit surface is slightly powdered.

Longbai like deep and fertile soil, require good drainage, avoid wet waterlogging, otherwise it will cause yellow leaves, poor growth. The growth was slow when it was young, but accelerated after 3-4 years, and weakened after the trunk reached 3 meters high.

Long Bo Xiyang. Where the drainage is good and the soil layer is deep, it grows well. Drought tolerance is strong, as long as the rhizosphere or seedling bed is covered in summer and autumn, there are generally few dead seedlings without water, but in order to promote growth, the annual growth can be increased by 50 cm by adding fertilizer and water frequently. The main branch of dragon cypress has strong extensibility, but it rotates upward around the trunk without outward development in the south of the Yangtze River, and the lateral branches are closely arranged, so the whole tree is euphemistic like a double dragon holding column, so the lower branch should be properly preserved and should not be cut or damaged at will, otherwise it will form hanging seedlings and look at great damage, so it generally does not prune and let it grow naturally.

In addition to the natural growth of the cypress tree, some of its climbing plates are tied into animal images such as dragons, horses, lions and elephants, and some are trimmed into spherical, drum-shaped, hemispherical, single-valued or column poles and groups planted in the garden, and some are planted into hedges, which are shaped and trimmed into straight ridges, which can show their low, plump, meticulous and fine. Dragon cypress side branches twisted and spirally dried, unique, high ornamental value, widely cultivated in various parts of our country.

Cultivation and management

Dragon cypress is accustomed to asexual reproduction, including grafting, branch grafting, cuttings, pressing and so on, each of which has its own advantages, which are described as follows:

1. Leaning on: the survival rate is high and the seedling is fast, but the disadvantage is that the number of reproduction is limited, the procedures and management are troublesome, because the mother tree is tall and tall, it is more inconvenient to operate, but this method can still be used for a small amount of propagation. It can be used to connect rootstock with round cypress, turquoise cypress, flat cypress and flower cypress, which will be implemented from March to April, and can be fully healed from August to September, and can be cut off from the female parent for transplantation. for specific operation, please refer to the article "close connection".

2. Branch grafting in early spring: in early spring and February, 2-year-old Platycladus orientalis was used as rootstock, 1-2-year-old branches of dragon cypress with strong growth and free of diseases and insect pests were selected as scions, 5-10 cm in length, 2-3 cm in length, straight cut on one side, 2-3 cm in length, and 2-4 cm in length. The rootstock can be cut off from the graft, then cut straight from one side of the cross section, 2-3 cm long, with a little xylem, then insert the cut scion into the rootstock, align the cambium on one side, and then fasten the joint with plastic film. In order to ensure that the scion does not lose water and die before survival, a small plastic bag can be put on the scion. After about 2 months, the top bud of the wind scion germinates, which proves that the wound has healed well, and the bagging can be removed and entered the normal management. In addition, the skin can be torn and mosaic in the growing period. The survival rate of this method is also very high.

Reproduction method

Dragon cypress is a kind of valuable garden tree, the crown is cylindrical, like a pan dragon, shaped like a fixed tower suitable for planting around the Gaoxia square, or instead of pot planting. It has the function of absorbing many kinds of harmful gases and dedusting effect. Although cypress can bear seeds, it is not easy to sprout. Most of the propagation methods are cutting and grafting. During the period of grafting and propagation of Cypress, it is suitable to propagate from mid-February to early March in spring, and from late September to early October in autumn. There are 2-year-old Platycladus orientalis as rootstock and the grafting methods are as follows:

1. Ground connection: the aboveground part of the rootstock should be retained, the soil of the rhizome should be excavated 3-5 cm, and the depth of the rootstock is about 1/2. The scion selects the middle section of the biennial branch, which is about 8 cm long, the basal needle leaves are removed by 1/3, and one side of the cut is cut by 1.5-2cm, and the other side is about 0.6cm. The scion is inserted into the cut of the rootstock, so that the two layers are aligned and fastened with plastic film. 3-5 cm of soil, cover grass to prevent drought, but also need to build a shed to cover the shade temporarily.

2. Digging and grafting: after digging up the rootstocks, the roots and branches are properly trimmed, and the method of digging and grafting is the same as that of ground grafting, but it should be planted in time after grafting, obstructing the soil to the exposed top 3 cm. After grafting, the healing is slow from the beginning to the survival, and the spring grafting begins to heal in May, so the branches and leaves of the rootstock should be cut off gradually. After that, in addition to proper shading, preventing the dry wind from blowing, and keeping a certain degree of moisture, it is also necessary to prevent Rain Water from invading in the next half a month, and the general survival rate can reach more than 75%.

Pest control

The occurrence of cypress disease is less, in addition to the above-mentioned pear red spot disease, when the cutting seedbed substrate is not clean or repeated, purple feather disease is easy to occur, which can be prevented according to the above-mentioned methods. The common pest is the cloth bag moth, which should be sprayed with 1000 times 98% crystal trichlorfon in early June when the larvae have not spread.
