Taxus, also known as Taxus chinensis, is a plant of the genus Taxus. Taxus is a shallow root plant whose main root is not obvious and its lateral root is well developed. it is recognized as an endangered natural rare anticancer plant in the world. it is an ancient relict tree species left over from Quaternary glacier and has a history of 2.5 million years on earth. Due to the slow growth rate and poor regeneration ability of Taxus under natural conditions, there has been no large-scale yew raw material forest base in the world for a long time.

In 1994, Taxus was designated as a first-class rare and endangered plant in China, and at the same time, it was called a "national treasure" by 42 countries with yew in the world, and logging was also banned by the United Nations. It is a veritable "plant giant panda".

1. Newly purchased bonsai maintenance: the newly purchased yew bonsai had better spray 1000 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution on the leaves every three or four days, usually before 10: 00 in the morning or around 4: 00 in the afternoon. after spraying three to four times in a row, it is gradually reduced to spraying once a month or so.

2, lighting requirements: Taxus is a shade-loving plant, suitable for indoor display, but should pay attention to appropriate shading in summer, should not be placed in the room with western light.

3. Soil selection: the soil quality planted by Taxus chinensis should be loose, rich in humus, fertile and slightly acidic (between PH=5~6.5).

4, moisture requirements: the surface of the basin soil is slightly yellow and white, the leaves are slightly curled, and the basin soil does not need to be watered, as long as the leaf surface is sprayed. When the soil in the basin turns white, the basin soil should be watered. Pay attention to watering thoroughly at one time, so that the basin soil can fully absorb enough water.

5. Soil fertility: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, nitrogen fertilizer can promote the growth of flowers and plants, phosphorus fertilizer can promote the formation of flowers and fruits, and potassium fertilizer can promote the growth of stems and roots. As the newly purchased yew bonsai has used prepared nutritious soil, there is no need to apply fertilizer within 3 months, and then it can be fertilized every 2 to 3 months. Cake fertilizer is the best fertilizer, and attention should be paid to operating along the edge of the basin when fertilizing. avoid touching the bonsai root. Flowerpot selection, flowerpot to choose the appropriate larger, the bottom of the pot needs to make a few more holes, mainly to enhance the water permeability and air permeability of the flowerpot.

6. requirements for transplanting and changing pots: half a year after bonsai purchase, the saplings gradually grow and the roots are well developed. in order to ensure its normal growth, users are advised to transplant and change pots. When changing pots, it is best to break the old basin, do not damage the original soil ball, and slowly move it into the new basin. And watering to determine the root to ensure survival.

7. Bonsai trimming: if the dry yellow leaves in the lower part of the bonsai fall off seriously, it may be that the lower branches grow too dense, and several branches that are too dense need to be trimmed off. Trimming can be arbitrarily shaped to trim it into umbrella-shaped, tower-shaped, circular and other shapes. The newly purchased yew bonsai with yew No. 3 and above will cause damage to part of the root system when transplanting from the planting base to the flowerpot, thus making the nutrient supply between roots and branches out of balance. When the leaves still curl and dry in the potted soil, it is best to prune the branches and leaves of bonsai properly in order to reduce the excessive consumption of nutrients by branches and leaves and restore root growth.

Disease and pest control: in high temperature and dry season, leaf blight and red blight will occur in individual young yew trees, which can be controlled by spraying 1% Bordeaux solution.

9. Because of the dry climate in the north, it can be watered when the soil surface is dry, and pay attention to watering it all at once, especially in summer. When the air is dry in the north, the leaf surface is easy to droop due to lack of water, and when the leaf surface is not full, you need to spray water from the bottom up with a small spray can (you can spray it every day in summer). Taxus is a shade-loving plant, which is suitable to be placed indoors, but it should not be placed at the air outlet of the air conditioner or next to the heating, otherwise it will increase the water evaporation of the leaves of the yew and make the branches and leaves of the yew dehydrated quickly, causing the leaves to curl and dry up.

10. The yew bonsai should not be irrigated with tea water, especially the water quality in Beijing is hard and the alkali content is high, so the water must be used for watering and spraying after one day.
