The fairy flower originated in China and Japan and was introduced to the United Kingdom in 1736. It is widely cultivated in Europe, the Netherlands, Germany and France. Red, blue and purple varieties can be seen in florists. The common varieties of hydrangea are Alpengluxin, Red Hat, Enziandome, Flamboant and Snowball.

Alpengluxin: crimson or rose red flowers.

Red hat: the leaves are small and dark green, and the flowers are light rose to magenta.

Enziandome: the leaves are dark green and the flowers are bright red. If the soil is below pH5, the flowers turn dark blue.

Flamboant: the leaves are small, the flowers are large and magenta, and the flower diameter is 5 cm.

Snowball: leaves small, jagged, normal flowers rose red, can turn blue. Treated with aluminum sulfate, it can turn into sky blue and beige flower hearts.

French hydrangea: magenta or rose red flowers can be changed to blue or lavender.
