Eucalyptus belongs to myrtaceae, eucalyptus, evergreen plants, alias white diesel tree, Mang tree, there are Gary, eucalyptus leaves, eucalyptus leaves, oil Gary, Gary trees, eucalyptus leaves and so on. Eucalyptus, native to Australia, is one of the world's three fast-growing tree species (poplar, pine, eucalyptus). At present, more than 90 countries and regions on five continents have been widely introduced, and the planting area accounts for about 1/3 of the world's plantation area.

Eucalyptus planting characteristics

1. Strong adaptability: Eucalyptus likes warm climate, but it is not resistant to damp and hot, and the climate is too hot to grow badly; Eucalyptus likes light, and a little shade can affect the growth rate; Eucalyptus is not cold resistant, and can only withstand low temperatures of-7℃ for a short time. If it is at-5℃ for 2-3 days, it will produce different degrees of freezing damage. Light twigs will die, heavy ones will die; Eucalyptus likes fertile and humid acidic soil.

2, fast growth rate: Eucalyptus is the fastest growing tree species in the world, growing season, 1 day can grow 3 cm tall, 1 month can grow 1 meter tall, a year can grow up to 10 meters.

3, less pests: Eucalyptus is an exotic species, currently in China's large-scale planting history is not long, therefore, there are few large-scale pests, much better than the situation of poplar. However, in recent years, there has been an expanding trend in the situation of pests and diseases.

4. The rotation period is very short: the rotation period of spruce plantation is 70 years. The rotation period of Pinus massoniana plantation in China is 20-25 years, and that of Cunninghamia lanceolata is 15-20 years. The rotation period of Eucalyptus plantations in southern provinces is 5-7 years, especially in Leizhou Peninsula, and some even shorten to 3-4 years.

5, a wide range of uses: eucalyptus wood red, shiny, no special smell, texture staggered, dense structure, hard material, easy to bend, very suitable for bending wood materials. It can be used as furniture, floor, lathe, tool handle and farm implement. Its fiber is a good papermaking raw material, small diameter wood burning value is high, can be used as fuel, very widely used.

Planting environment requirements

Eucalyptus is adaptable and can grow in thin ridged soils. But only under suitable soil conditions can it display its fast-growing characteristics.

1. Soil: Eucalyptus likes fertilizer, generally requires deep, loose and fertile red soil or latosol, and grows well when the soil is neutral or slightly acidic.

2. Light: Eucalyptus is a light-loving tree species. It needs strong sunlight to grow well during the whole growth period. The sunny slope grows better than the shady slope.

3. Elevation: Mountain afforestation should also consider altitude. For every 100 meters above sea level, the temperature drops by 0.6℃. Cold tolerance should be considered. Generally, the altitude should not exceed 350 meters.

4. Temperature: Annual extreme temperature below-5℃ is not suitable for planting eucalyptus.

Eucalyptus Planting Technique

The planting density of common eucalyptus species (plant spacing): Eucalyptus camaldulensis clone 1.5m× 3m, 148 plants per mu; Eucalyptus dunni and Eucalyptus willows 2m × 3m, 117 plants per mu or 3m × 3m, 89 plants per mu.

The best planting month of Eucalyptus is February to June every year, during which the survival rate of Eucalyptus planted is high and the trees grow vigorously.
