Last Updated: 2024/11/05, In general, too much light or too much fertilizer causes the leaves to grow longer. Cut them in time. Prepare a pair of scissors, preferably sterile. Cut off the withered outer leaves first. Then cut off the long leaves, not flat, preferably obliquely, cut on both sides. Also, it is best to cut the roots.

1. The reason why the leaves are too long

(1) too much fertilizer: this is the most important reason. Too much fertilizer, especially nitrogen fertilizer, can easily lead to overgrowth of plants and long leaves, affecting the ornamental effect.

(2) the light is too abundant: if the light time is too long, the plant will carry out more photosynthesis, and the growth will be very fast, and finally the leaves will become too long.

2. The method of pruning

If the leaves are too long, they have to be trimmed, otherwise the overall shape will be greatly affected. Prepare the tools first-- a sharp knife will do. It is best to be sterilized before pruning. The first step is to cut off the withered leaves and yellow leaves in the periphery so as not to let them interfere with the following steps.

For a small number of withered leaves on the tip, it is best not to leave them. Then there is pruning the leaves that are too long. Be careful not to cut flat, but obliquely, preferably one on each side. It looks more natural this way. Note that you can mainly choose the older leaves as the object, leaving the newly grown leaves. The growth ability of the orchid is very strong, after pruning, it will promote the growth of new leaves and small orchids.

3. Pruning the root system

Not only the leaves should be trimmed, but also the roots should be cut regularly. It can be cut when the pot is changed or when the plant is not growing well. The main purpose is to cut off the diseased roots, old roots and rotten roots.
