Culture methods of Tennis Flower
Tennis flowers are common indoor potted ornamental flowers. They are perennial herbs of the Amaryllidaceae family, native to tropical Africa. They are introduced and cultivated in China for ornamental use. The flowers are colorful, with blood red, white and bright red colors, and the flowers are dense and shot like balls. The southern outdoor plants are arranged in pieces, and the flowering landscape is unique. Let's take a look at the cultivation methods of tennis flowers.
The growth habit of tennis flower
Tennis flowers are native to tropical Africa, like warm, humid and semi-shady environment, like sandy loam with good drainage, drought-resistant, not cold-resistant, Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and other places can not overwinter in the open field, and the bulbs must be cultivated indoors when they enter the dormant period in winter. The suitable temperature during the growing period is 20-30 ℃, and the overwintering temperature should be kept above 5 ℃. The soil should be loose, fertile and well drained.
Propagation methods of Tennis Flower
1. Ball division: tennis flower ball reproduction is carried out when changing pots in spring, and the small balls around the mother ball can be separated and planted. The bulb is generally propagated once in 2 ~ 3 years because of its poor ability to form bulbs.
2. Sowing: 50-60 days after tennis blossom, the seeds were collected when the seeds were ripe, sowed in pots, and germinated about 15 days after sowing, but the seedlings grew slowly and usually took 4-5 years to blossom.
Culture methods of Tennis Flower
1. Soil: tennis flowers should choose loose, fertile and well-drained soil, and apply a small amount of bone powder as base fertilizer, and cover the bottom of the basin with coarse sand to facilitate drainage.
2. Fertilization: tennis flowers can be fertilized after the bulb sprouts, and thin cake fertilizer or 0.2% compound fertilizer is applied every 2 weeks in the growing season.
3. Watering: tennis flowers should be watered dry and wet, but should not be watered. It is better to be too dry. If there is too much water, the bulbs are easy to rot. Do not water during dormancy in winter.
4, lighting: tennis flowers like shade, summer should be placed under the shade to avoid direct light, otherwise easy to burn leaves, winter is the dormant period, do not need direct sunlight.
5. Temperature: tennis flowers are not cold-resistant and like warmth. The optimum temperature in the growing period is 10-20 ℃, and the optimum temperature in the overwintering dormancy period is 8-10 ℃.
6. Diseases and insects: tennis bulb rot can be disinfected by soaking the bulb in 0.5% formalin solution for 3 hours before planting, and underground slugs can be sprayed with 3% lime water.
