Master Hu Leguo and I have known each other for nearly 30 years. Today, I was surprised to learn that Mr. Hu Leguo died in the early morning of August 11, 2018. The memories of getting together with my husband seem to be still in front of me.
Mr. Hu is one of the outstanding representatives of contemporary Chinese bonsai art. His "high stem and hanging branch" pine tree shape is very poetic and is loved by people in bonsai circles at home and abroad. In the process of learning bonsai, I was also influenced by Mr. Hu. I would ask him for advice every time I attended the exhibition, and Mr. Hu never tired of it, so we became friends with each other. He is low-key and optimistic, and although he is old, he often acts as a judge in every major exhibition, following everyone around the field and taking great pains, and everyone jokingly calls him an "old man".
In 2000, the Fifth National Bonsai Exhibition was held in Huqiu, Suzhou, which gave me the honor to see the works of teacher Hu. His pine bonsai works have a certain degree of natural beauty and rich literati style and book style. He told me: pine trees in nature are still worthy of our modern bonsai people to learn, but also to absorb nutrition from ancient paintings. Mr. Hu summed up the "high stem and hanging branches", the shape of pine bonsai. As soon as the concept of "high-ranking cadres and hanging branches" was advocated by teacher Hu, it was immediately pursued by people in bonsai circles at home and abroad. Many people believe that, compared with the sturdy style of Japanese pine bonsai, the elegant and unrestrained, wide opening and closing of "high stem and hanging branches" is the most Chinese. It is rooted in Chinese culture, has the characteristics of the Chinese nation, and can best reflect the style and characteristics of Chinese pine bonsai. After that, Mr. Hu was invited to my private bonsai garden to give guidance and comment on the bonsai one by one. I really benefited a lot, and I felt the charm of the master, which was admirable. What's more, he made an appointment with Master Hu to visit him in Wenzhou during the Spring Festival next year and continue to ask him for advice and study.
On the first day of the Lunar New year in 2001, I drove my wife and daughter to Wenzhou to visit Mr. Hu. I went to Wenzhou and was led by his student Liu Rongsen to Hu's home. Mr. Hu was very enthusiastic and excited to show us his roof bonsai garden and introduced it to me like a few treasures, which inspired me and benefited me a lot. My wife also specially prepared water-splashed eggs and sweet-scented osmanthus Xiaoyuanzi for us, which were especially kind and warm. Since then, we have become good friends as well as teachers. Under the opportunity of bonsai, we meet in different activities every year, and Mr. Hu is always so amiable.
I still remember that in 2008, Mr. Hu and I once again participated in the cultural exchange activities of a delegation of Chinese bonsai artists visiting Japan. At this time, Mr. Hu was more than 70 years old, but he was still very energetic. We visited the courtyard of Kimura, watched the creative performance of Kimura, and visited the bonsai garden in Dazang, Iwasaki. We also went to Tokyo gallery to visit Japan's "National style Bonsai Exhibition". Teacher Hu said: not only should we inherit Chinese traditional bonsai culture, but Japanese bonsai making skills are also worth learning and using for reference. And from time to time to tell us some feelings, impart some experience and experience, very happy?
Now, although Mr. Hu has left us, but recall the contact with Mr. Hu bit by bit, many precious moments, the teacher's integrity let me deeply feel that the most precious meaning of life is: when you leave this world, what can you leave behind? How many stories can be told by future generations? Hu Lao's immortal thought and character will live in our hearts forever!

The teacher left. At the age of 86, he devoted his whole life to the cause of bonsai, and now he has gone to a better place in heaven. As a disciple, I only wish to have a good journey, and you will live in our hearts forever.
On behalf of my master's family and disciples, thank you for your concern. He will live in our hearts forever.
Mr. Hu, have a good journey. I have always wanted to consult Mr. Hu. I heard that the pine tree at the entrance of the bonsai garden in Ma Anchi Park is a gift from Mr. Hu. I will appreciate it for a long time every time I go there.

@ Taixu old man who hangs the pot:
Chinese spirit: such as the greatness of pine, the backbone of tall and straight, the cloud ambition of Ling Feng. However, the haughty body contains the bosom of bowing the earth. May the master drive to the west, and the products of pines and cypresses will live on forever!
@ Fan Junke:
In the summer of 2015, Mr. Hu Leguo, Mr. Zhang Zhigang and I went to the Greenfield Villa Scenic spot in Ningbo to discuss bonsai art and cultural exchange activities with Yuan Xingyi, vice president of Chinese Landscape Architecture Bonsai and Stone appreciation Branch. It's like it was yesterday. Good day, Mr. Hu!
@ Guo Xiaohang-Garden:
Master Hu Leguo is one of the founders of Zhejiang Bonsai School! It is the representative figure of Zhejiang school bonsai pine and cypress style! I was honored to be one of his students at the fifth bonsai and horticulture training class in Suzhou in October 1991. I was surprised to learn that the master had gone west, and I was deeply saddened! The departure of the master is actually a great loss to the Chinese bonsai world. I wish the master a good journey! Heaven will be more beautiful from now on!
@ Flowers all over the building:
Although he has never met Mr. Hu Leguo, he has learned a lot from his works and has been useful for the rest of his life. When the old man died, he said from the bottom of his heart that he felt bad. No more of his new works were published, and it was heartache to lose a good teacher whom he had never met. I wish him all the way.

Cutting a section of sunflower sandwiched on purslane is beautiful.
Sunflower is a grass-roots plant that can be seen everywhere. In fact, it is easy to raise sunflowers, as long as there is enough sunshine and moisture, they will blossom in summer. But if the sunflower is grafted on the horse tooth, it will blossom next year.
