Hami melon usually uses seed reproduction, in actual production in order to ensure the survival rate of sowing and seeding seedlings Qi, seedlings strong, it is necessary to pre-treat the seeds before sowing Hami melon seeds, let's take a look at Hami melon seed treatment method!

Hami melon seed selection and sunning

Put the cantaloupe seeds in a clean place and sift them by hand. Remove abnormal, mildewed, damaged, moth-eaten seeds, and select Hami melon seeds with even and full seeds for later use. Spread the selected Hami melon seeds evenly on clean paper or straw mats and dry them in sunny weather. Turn every 2 hours to allow the melon seeds to receive sunlight evenly. Through drying, the seed ripening is promoted, the seed vitality is enhanced, and the germination rate of Hami melon seeds is improved; meanwhile, ultraviolet rays and higher temperature in sunlight can kill germs carried on Hami melon seeds, and reduce the occurrence of diseases transmitted by seeds; and the drier the seeds are, the faster the water absorption speed is when soaking seeds later, which is beneficial to seed germination.

Hami melon seed disinfection

Generally, warm soup disinfection method is adopted. Add hot water of about 55-60℃ to a clean porcelain or glass container, and the amount of water added should be 5 times the volume of seeds. Blanch the dried seeds in hot water while stirring gently with a glass or wooden stick in the same direction. Add hot water at any time, maintain the temperature of 55-60℃ for 20-30 minutes, so that the seeds are fully heated and heated evenly. Then no longer add hot water to continue stirring, until the water temperature drops to about 28-30℃, take out the seeds, drain water, ready to soak seeds.

Hami melon seed soaking

Put the sterilized and drained seeds back into the original container, pour warm water at 28-30℃, and then add hot water frequently to maintain the temperature at 25-30℃. After soaking for 6-8 hours, pour the seeds into a larger container, gently rub them with your hands, and rub off the mucus on the seeds (because the mucus contains substances that inhibit seed germination, it is beneficial to seed germination after washing). After washing the mucus, rinse the seeds with clean water.

Drain the soaked seeds and wrap them with clean wet gauze. Wrap them around with clean wet towels to prevent evaporation. Then spread the seeds evenly at the bottom of the prepared container, insert a thermometer near the seeds in the container, heat and insulate them with a kang, an electric blanket, etc., check the temperature of the thermometer frequently, and control the temperature between 25 and 28℃. During germination, seeds should be frequently turned to eliminate carbon dioxide and respiratory heat generated by seed respiration, exchange fresh air, and supply sufficient oxygen. Under suitable temperature conditions, about 24 hours can sprout, when the seed just began to show white when the seed can be sown. Try to control bud length within 0.5 cm to prevent germination too long. Sprouts grow too long when easy to break the next seed, will reduce the emergence rate.
