Last Updated: 2024/11/22, Desert roses can be propagated by cutting, striping, and sowing. The cutting method is to choose a mature branch with a length of ten centimeters, insert it into the soil made of river sand and wait for it to take root. The sowing method is to sow the seeds into the loose soil after the beginning of spring, then cover the soil, keep the soil moist, and wait for it to germinate and take root.

1. Cutting method

When cutting desert roses, the time is more appropriate in spring and summer, when the climate is stable. First cut off more than 10 centimeters of annual branches, the top is the best, soak in rooting water for 30 seconds, insert into the foundation made of river sand and sawdust, place in a cool place, wait for it to take root. During this period, you don't have to water too much, just keep the soil moist, and after it takes root, it can be transplanted into the basin.

2. Strip pressing method

The time of the striping method is also in spring and summer, because this is the growing period of desert roses, and the survival rate is better when it is propagated by the striping method. In the striping method, you first need to cut the plant with a sterilized blade where the plant takes root, or peel that part of the bark around, wrap the injured place with water moss or soil, and then hold it tightly with a thin film, and then tie it tightly at both ends. Slowly it will take root, and when you see the root growing to the film, it can be cut off and planted.

3. Sowing method

The seeds of desert roses are difficult to collect because they burst when the seeds are ripe and the seeds are so small that they are difficult to pick up. So collect the seeds before it breaks down. There is no specified time for sowing. You can sow seeds as long as the climate is warm. When sowing, sow the seeds into the soil culture base composed of river sand and ceramsite, cover with three centimeters of soil, water a small amount, keep the soil wet, then put it in a cool place and wait for it to sprout. After the seedlings come out, the unhealthy and weak seedlings should be pulled out to make room and nutrients for the healthy seedlings. When the seedlings grow to about four centimeters, they can be planted in pots.
