How did garlic come into being?
Garlic is the general name of garlic plants of the genus Allium in Liliaceae. it is oblate or short conical, with grayish white or light brown membranous scales on the outside, and there are 610 cloves of garlic in the stripped leaves, whorled around the flower stems. but sometimes there is only one clove after peeling, which is called single garlic or single head garlic. Let's take a look at how the single garlic is formed.
Reason 1: garlic sowing too late is the main reason for the production of single garlic, such as planting when it is warmer in spring, the garlic seedlings will encounter high temperature and long sunshine soon after they grow out, in this condition many buds will degenerate and only a single garlic clove will be left.
Reason 2: garlic grows into inflorescences that are not flowering, but produces many aerial bulbs (that is, flowers at the top of garlic bolts grow and form), which are planted in the ground, so that the garlic produced is often single-petal garlic.
The third reason: early-maturing varieties, small cloves of garlic, barren soil, insufficient base fertilizer, drought and lack of water, serious grass shortage, excessive density, too few leaves, unmet temperature and light conditions for scale bud differentiation, etc. will lead to the production of single garlic.
The fourth reason: garlic due to species degradation, plant growth is weak, small leaf area, less accumulation of assimilated nutrients, plants are not enough to differentiate flower buds and other conditions will also produce single-petal garlic.
Planting technique of garlic
1. Land selection and soil preparation: sand or sandy loam should be selected for garlic cultivation. After harvest, the fields should be cleaned as early as possible, the Kang should be turned deeply into the sun, and the soil should be matured. 2000 kg of rotten high-quality organic fertilizer, 50 kg of calcium superphosphate and 10 kg of potassium sulfate should be applied per mu, and then the soil moisture should be opened with 1: 1.2 meters.
2. Seed valve treatment: the selected seed valve was treated in a cold storage of 2 ~ 5 ℃ for 50 ~ 60 days, and the proportion of single garlic could reach 50% after cultivation. The garlic seeds treated with low temperature have been released from dormancy and germinated, and their life activities have been gradually strengthened, so we should seize the time to sow seeds in different stages.
3. Sowing time: the garlic seeds treated with low temperature should be sowed between the Autumn Equinox and Cold Dew, and the only garlic rate is 40-50%. The garlic is of high quality and high comprehensive output value, so the best sowing time for garlic cultivation should be carried out in this period.
4. Pre-sowing treatment: before sowing, the garlic seeds treated with low temperature were divided and the bottom cover was removed before sowing, and then ready for use according to large, medium and small grades. Soak in cool water for 6 hours for 12 hours before sowing, drain the water vapor, mix the seeds with 50% carbendazim powder, and then sow the seeds.
5. Sowing method
① on demand: according to the plant row spacing of 4 × 5 cm, use a wooden stake to point the hole on the border surface, put a clove of garlic, the root down. After planting, the border was covered with 1 cm thick fine soil, and about 80-90 000 seedlings / mu were planted.
② strip sowing: shovel a sowing ditch with a depth of 4cm to 6cm and a width of 15cm with a board hoe, and then plant seeds in the ditch according to the row spacing of 4 × 7cm. Note that garlic cloves can not be inverted, about 60 ~ 70 000 seedlings per mu.
6. Sowing depth: the sowing depth of garlic should be controlled at 4cm to 6cm. On the one hand, the unearthed seedlings consume a certain amount of energy, which is beneficial to weaken the plant growth and increase the rate of garlic. On the other hand, the only garlic fruit-shaped orchard is formed, and the appearance of the goods is of good quality.
7. Interplanting: interplanting small leafy vegetables with short growth period after garlic sowing, such as spinach, coriander, cherry radish, etc., can properly shade, compete for space, compete for nutrients to inhibit the growth of seedlings, to achieve the purpose of increasing the rate of garlic.
8. Fertilizer and water management: single garlic needs different kinds of fertilizer sources in different growth stages. Generally speaking, it focuses on nitrogen fertilizer in the early growth stage, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in the later stage, and topdressing in the appropriate period on the basis of sufficient base fertilizer.
① seedling fertilizer: when garlic grows out of 4-5 leaves, the nutrients in the seed petal are exhausted, and the plant turns to absorb nutrients from the soil. It should be diluted with 1500 kg / mu of human feces and urine in time, or topdressing with 5-10 kg / mu urea and watering.
② expansion fertilizer: when the single garlic grows 7-9 leaves, the single garlic that does not differentiate the flower bud begins to expand, and the garlic that can sprout completes the flower bud differentiation and elongation growth. It can be applied according to 1220 kg / mu of potassium sulfate, and increase the amount of irrigation to promote the rapid expansion of garlic.
③ foliar fertilizer: combined with plant growth, garlic should be foliar sprayed with appropriate concentration of potassium dihydrogen phosphate, garlic special multi-element fertilizer, garlic bulking hormone and so on. These measures are beneficial to improve yield and quality.
