Witch hazel: a very rare plant in China, endemic to China.

The reason why it is rated as a cherished plant is that it is rare in number and has important research significance in economy, science, culture, education and so on.

Witch hazel is also called "Shan Shi Mu". It is a national Ⅰ-level key protected wild plant. It is a deciduous tree, which is described as whirling, and the branches and leaves of witch hazel are luxuriant when they grow up.

The flowering period of witch hazel is mid-March, and its flowering is very interesting. This plant blossoms first and then leaves, then the color of the flower is light green after flowering, and then the color of the flower changes from light green to white. Its anther is yellow with a touch of red. After the witch hazel blossoms, the flowers are first upward and then drooping after flowering. It looks very beautiful from a distance, and it is golden.

Witch hazel was discovered in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, China in 1992, with a history of 67 million years. Metasequoia glyptostroboides, which is used as a bonsai tree, is also called a living fossil.

Gymnosperms have lived on the earth for 200 million years, probably in the Paleozoic era. Angiosperms appeared in the Cretaceous of the Mesozoic. This fully shows how important its research value is.

In fact, the discovery of witch hazel was discovered in 1935, but at that time the War of Resistance against Japan was upright, so scientific research was interrupted. And the specimens found have been kept in the laboratory, with the victory of the War of Resistance against Japan and the victory of the War of Liberation. In 1987, scientists restudied this species. And officially named in 1992.

From the above, we can see that the value of witch hazel in all aspects is very great. Its tree shape is simple and vigorous. It is very good to watch leaves and flowers indoors, its leaves turn yellow in autumn, and the flowers are in the shape of silver strands, so it is a good material for bonsai production. Not only can be used as a good material for bonsai, but also can be made into a home, its wood is hard, straight and fine glossiness is very good.

As an endangered plant, slow reproduction and low survival rate is a common problem. So, if you meet it in the wild, you should protect it well and don't hurt them.
