What is base fertilizer? Is it necessary to use base fertilizer after all?

Here, I would like to talk about a question often mentioned by some flower friends, that is, whether some rose seedlings should be put into base fertilizer when they are just on the pot. As far as I understand it, I think even the seedlings can be put into the base fertilizer, because usually the base fertilizer is placed at the bottom of the flowerpot, and the roots of the seedlings are short and few, in fact, the fertilizer does not come into direct contact with the roots.

After the root system has grown for a period of time, when the root system can reach the base fertilizer at the bottom, the first shows that the plant has taken the pot, and the second shows that the plant has grown up, and it is time to absorb more nutrients. What we should pay attention to in this situation is not to choose a too shallow flowerpot, so that there is a certain space between the base fertilizer and the root system.

New seedlings or seedlings do not need to be fertilized in the first month of potting, just keep sufficient water and sunshine, during this period the plant can not absorb too much nutrition. And which of the rose base fertilizers can be selected? My personal suggestion is that it is better to use organic fertilizer or slow-release fertilizer, while chemical fertilizer should be used with caution or less.

The so-called organic fertilizer is some natural things that can provide nutrients to plants, such as bean cakes, feces, plant ash and so on. One thing to note here is that when bean cakes and feces are used as fertilizers for plants, they must be fully fermented before use.

One disadvantage of unfermented bean cakes and feces is that they are prone to worms, not to mention nutrition. If the whole flowerpot is full of bugs, the roots will suffer. The plant ash still belongs to the natural and easy to use base fertilizer, the fertilizer efficiency is slightly lower, but it is easier to use and safer to use, especially the seedlings can use more plant ash.

If bean cakes and feces are used directly, it is not only easy to produce insects, but also easy to burn roots, so the loss outweighs the gain. The nutrient release of slow-release fertilizer is mainly related to temperature, that is, the higher the temperature, the more and faster the nutrient release. Therefore, if you choose to change the soil in summer, slow-release fertilizer as the base fertilizer had better be used less and away from the root system, otherwise a large amount of nutrients will be suddenly released during the basin period, which will cause fertilizer damage.

Therefore, I think it would be better to use slow-release fertilizer as base fertilizer if we change the basin of rose in autumn. Because the weather gradually decreases after changing the basin, the fertilizer effect of slow-release fertilizer is released more slowly, while the rose that has just moved the basin needs a period of time to take the basin and does not need too much nutrient supply. After a winter, the root system has grown steadily, the weather happens to be warmer, and the supply of nutrients is more consistent with the growth demand of the rose.
