Amaranth originated from China and Southeast Asia, at the beginning, it is the most wild vegetable to eat, but because of its high nutritional value, powerful effect, strong adaptability, easy growth and ability to withstand a variety of environments, amaranth is slowly used as a vegetable plant. It is grown in many parts of our country. The following pro-agricultural network brings you the time and method of planting amaranth.

Planting time

Amaranth is resistant to drought, humidity and high temperature, so it can be planted from spring to autumn, and the best planting time is from March to April, when the climate is conducive to seedling emergence. Open-air cultivation can sow seeds from March to August, while the greenhouse environment can sow seeds one month in advance, which can be listed in advance and seize the market.

Planting method

1. Soil selection and land preparation

Amaranth has strong adaptability, so it is not strict with the soil, but it grows well in alkaline soil. Although it is drought-resistant, it does not grow well in the soil with poor drainage, so the land with flat terrain and good drainage should be selected. Soil preparation must be careful, turn the soil deep, break up the lump soil, and keep the soil loose.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings

Amaranth seeds can be direct seeded, but in order to ensure its emergence rate, soak the seeds in warm water for 4-5 hours before sowing, but the seeds are relatively small, so they are mixed with sand when sowing, stir evenly and sow seeds. Sprinkle it on the ground and cover it with 0.5cm. There is no need for less after sowing. Normally, it can germinate in a week, but after treatment, it can germinate in 2-3 days, waiting for its seedlings to grow two or three leaves. The seedlings can be interspersed and fertilized once after the seedlings.

3. Field management

In the seedling stage, amaranth should be ploughed and weeded in time, so as not to affect the growth of seedlings. Amaranth should be fertilized many times during the growth period, once when two or three leaves grow, once when 5-6 leaves grow, and once when harvested. Nitrogen fertilizer is the main fertilizer, with some farm manure properly. Although amaranth is drought-resistant, in order to make its growth strong, it is necessary to keep the soil moist in spring and winter and high temperature in summer.

The above is the planting method and time of amaranth brought by pro-agricultural network, amaranth diseases and insect pests are less, the main harm is white rust, when found to deal with in time, can be manual leaf picking and chemical control.
