Because compound fertilizer contains a variety of nutrients needed by plants, the yield-increasing effect of compound fertilizer is more significant than that of simple fertilizer. This concept of fertilization has been recognized and accepted by farmers. However, due to a variety of factors, most farmers do not know that even if they buy qualified compound fertilizer, it will lead to crop yield reduction or even no harvest due to improper selection or application. Therefore, I would like to talk about some superficial opinions on how to choose and buy suitable compound fertilizer, which can only be used as a reference for farmers.

Local soil characteristics

For farmers who are located in alkaline soils in the north, they should generally choose acidic compound fertilizers; farmers who are opposed to acidic soils in the south should choose alkaline compound fertilizers; and for soils with low organic matter content, generally can be combined with the application of organic compound fertilizer or organic-inorganic compound fertilizer.

In addition, for the alkaline soil in northwest China, it is generally not suitable to select and apply the compound fertilizer produced with soluble phosphorus, potassium chloride and ammonium chloride as raw materials.

Varieties of crops planted

As far as field crops are concerned, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ternary compound fertilizer should be selected generally, and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ternary compound fertilizer with high potassium content should be selected for cash crops such as vegetables, fruit trees, especially root crops. Compound fertilizer with high chloride content produced from potassium chloride and ammonium chloride is not suitable for chlorine-avoiding crops such as grapes, potatoes, tobacco and sugar beets.

Fertilizer properties

Farmers should usually learn to understand and master some general knowledge about fertilizers, so that they can have a good idea when choosing and buying fertilizers. For example, according to the GB15063-2001 national standard, the effective nutrient content of compound fertilizer (compound fertilizer) can be divided into three types: high concentration nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content ≥ 40%, medium concentration nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content ≥ 30%, low concentration nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content ≥ 25%, excluding trace elements and medium elements; water-soluble phosphorus content ≥ 40% and so on. With different nutrient content, there are differences in the quantity and technical requirements of application, and of course, the price is also different.

Fertilization mode

In order to improve the fertilizer efficiency of compound fertilizer, different dosage forms of compound fertilizer should be selected for different fertilization methods. For example, when making base fertilizer, it is necessary to choose granular compound fertilizer or compound fertilizer containing slow and controlled release fertilizer, which has a long fertilizer effect and is beneficial to improve the utilization rate of nitrogen. The effect of basic application of humic acid compound fertilizer is better than that of topdressing.

According to the principle of balanced fertilization

Farmers should usually contact agricultural technicians to understand the soil characteristics and the law of crop fertilizer requirements, and it is best to combine with soil testing formula fertilization, according to the principle of balancing crop nutrition, according to the reasonable formula of soil testing results, and what to make up for. To achieve a balanced supply of crop nutrients. Finally, it should be noted that compound fertilizer nutrients are relatively fixed, must not be blindly selected and applied, and should not be used as an elemental fertilizer to avoid unnecessary loss and waste.
