The longicorn beetle is a kind of longicorn beetle unique to Japan, China and South Korea. when the larvae hatch, they will chew into the tree to form a pupa, which can harm poplar, willow, elm, French sycamore, jujube, chestnut and other trees. it is also the main pest of crape myrtle, sycamore and citrus. Let's take a look at how to control longicorn beetles.

Harmful characteristics of longicorn beetles

Anoplophora alternatus is an important forestry stem pest in China, which occurs one generation a year. The larvae overwintered in the xylem of the affected host, began to feed in mid-and late March, pupated in late April, emerged in late May, and hatched in early June to overwintering in late October. Anoplophora alternatus has been reported to damage many kinds of trees, such as Platanus, poplar, willow, elm, jujube, chestnut, crape myrtle and so on because of its wide host range, miscellaneous food habits, great destructiveness and high difficulty of control.

Breeding habits of longicorn beetles

Anoplophora glabripennis adults like to eat Kudong most, often feeding on branches and bark, and less on leaves. Longicorn beetle larvae do not have the ability to select hosts on their own, and the host where the larvae are located is determined by the spawning selection of female adults. Female adults usually lay eggs on host trees with larger diameters and prefer to lay eggs on trees with weaker tree potential. The diameter of the spawning site is more than 5 cm, which is less than 2.5 meters from the ground.

How to prevent and cure longicorn beetles?

1. Manual capture: aiming at the habit of longicorn beetle adults who like to take a lunch break in high temperature weather, adults can be killed manually, and combined with pruning and thinning, the eggs can be scraped off during the peak spawning period of longicorn beetle adults, which can greatly reduce the population density.

2. Artificial hookworm: according to the habit of longicorn beetle larvae, the hooked wire can be used to kill the longicorn beetle larvae like Monopterus Albus.

3. Controlling insects with insects: making use of the natural control function of natural enemies of longicorn beetles, raising borer peaks, swollen leg bees and other beneficial organisms to control longicorn beetles.

4. Injection at the mouth of the cave: in view of the habit that the longicorn beetle larvae are good at "tunnel warfare", phoxim 200 and 300 times can be injected into the insect mouth to poison the longicorn beetle larvae in the cave.

5. Trunk whitening: aiming at the habit of oviposition at the base of adult tree trunk of longicorn beetles, whitening can be applied below 80cm below the base of the trunk before the occurrence of adults, and the method of trunk whitening can effectively prevent adult spawning.
