Corn has entered the late growth stage, and almost new corn will be on the market in more than a month. It seems a little late for weeding after corn seedlings, but it is not too much to discuss it with you here.

What is the best medicine for weeding after corn seedlings?

There are many corn herbicides in the market now, and a variety of herbicides are dazzling for growers. However, generally speaking, the more popular post-seedling herbicides in the market are nicosulfuron, nicosine atrazine, nitrosulfonone, oxazolone, Acetochlor, atrazine and so on. However, there are only a few major categories of herbicides: amides, triazobenzenes, sulfonylureas and phenoxy carboxylic acids. It can only be said that all herbicides are good and bad, and they are not perfect. When using it, you still have to make a comprehensive consideration according to the situation of corn and weeds in your field.

Common corn herbicides

First of all, let's take a look at the main types of weeds in the cornfield. There are three main types of weeds in corn field: broad leaves, grasses and sedges. Broad-leaved species are common purslane, Solanum nigrum, Tianxuan flower, etc., gramineous plants are Setaria mandshurica, sophora officinalis, and the last one is Cyperus roxburghii.

And the weed of Rhizoma Cyperi has an upward trend in recent years. Especially summer corn, because there is enough rain and heat during the corn growing period, it is very easy to form grass famine. This shows the importance of weeding in maize seedling stage.

Here, let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of various herbicides.

First of all, amide herbicides, this kind of herbicides are not suitable for maize seedling use, because the use of these herbicides is generally soil treatment, play a closed role in weeding. But corn seedlings have grown and weeds have grown at the seedling stage, and all these herbicides have little effect at the seedling stage. The common herbicides are alachlor, Acetochlor, butachlor and so on. It is more suitable to eliminate grass weeds in cornfield, but the effect on broad-leaved grass and sedge is not obvious.

The second kind of triazobenzene herbicides, which is similar to the amide herbicides mentioned above, is that the use of these herbicides also belongs to the soil class, but these herbicides are mainly effective on broad-leaved weeds. The common herbicides are cyanazine, atrazine and so on.

The third kind of sulfonylurea herbicides, it should be said that this kind of herbicides are more suitable for maize seedling weeding, because its use method is more flexible, soil and stems and leaves can be used. The safety of corn is relatively high. Common varieties are nicosulfuron, sulfone and so on. Here is a more commonly used nicosulfuron, it is an internal inhalation of herbicides, the killing of weeds need a certain amount of time, generally used after about 20 days to see the death of weeds. It has an effect on both grass weeds and broad-leaved weeds.

The fourth category is phenoxy carboxylic acid herbicides, which belong to internal absorption herbicides like sulfonylurea herbicides, have a wide herbicide spectrum and are more effective against broad-leaved grasses and sedges. The common ones are 2-methylene-4-methyl-D-butyl ester, 2-methyl-4-chlorine and so on.

In addition to the four common corn herbicides mentioned above, there is also our more common glyphosate, glyphosate is an organophosphorus herbicide, glyphosate is a destructive herbicide, so it is more lethal. Therefore, corn weeding does not use glyphosate, which is prone to drug damage.

The herbicides mentioned above are all single-agent herbicides. At present, there are many mixed herbicides on the market, and the herbicidal effect is good, so I will not describe them in detail here.

However, at present, nicosulfuron is the most commonly used herbicide in maize seedling stage, followed by mixed herbicides, such as nicosulfuron atrazine, nitrosulfonone atrazine and so on.

Selection of weeding time for Maize

Generally speaking, corn weeding can be carried out at three time points, one is weeding before seedling, one is weeding at seedling stage, that is, weeding at seedling stage, and the other is weeding in the middle and later stage of corn growth, which farmers often call weeding. The most commonly used of these three methods of weeding is corn weeding after seedling stage. That is, when corn seedlings grow to two to six leaves, and at this stage, when corn is in "three leaves with one heart", it can be said to be the best time for corn to use herbicides, and corn is more resistant to herbicides.

Finally, the above herbicides can only be used for ordinary corn, sweet corn, waxy corn and so on are not suitable for use, prone to drug damage.
