Sichuan bonsai is one of the most influential bonsai schools in Chinese bonsai art. In 2011, the bonsai production technology of Sichuan School, with its own artistic charm and unique production skill system, was selected into the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage list and became a national intangible heritage project. it opened a new starting point for hundreds of years of inheritance and development of Sichuan bonsai art.

Sichuan was called Bashu in ancient times. Jiannan Road was set up in the first year of Zhenguan in the Tang Dynasty (AD 627), so in the past, Sichuan bonsai was called "Jiannan bonsai". After Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, the state governance was changed to Yizhou, that is, Chengdu today, whose jurisdiction was not only limited to Sichuan, but also included some areas of Yunnan and Guizhou.

The unique Bashan Shu River has given birth to a unique Ba-Shu culture after a long historical process. According to the records of Benji of the King of Shu and the Chronicles of the State of Huayang, "from enlightened to silkworm bushes accumulated at 34000 years old,"the kingdom of Shu was born in the emperor." The Sanxingdui of Guang and Han is also enough to prove the long history of Ba-Shu culture.

The sixth Sichuan Provincial Bonsai Exhibition and the first Wenjiang Bonsai Art Festival with the theme of "Tree and Stone Weixiu, Spring returns to Wenjiang" was held in Wenjiang Park from February 28 to March 4, 2014. The bonsai exhibition covers an area of nearly 2000 square meters and comes from cities, prefectures, districts and counties in Sichuan province. nearly 1000 bonsai were selected from parks, cultural units, provincial bonsai artists association, Chengdu Wuhou Temple Museum, Yiyuan, Sanyi Company, Chengdu Xin Pioneer Bonsai Flower Professional Cooperative, Wenjiang hundred Flowers Bonsai Professional Cooperative and Chen's Flower Group.
