The potted geranium blossoms as usual during dormancy.
Geraniums are generally dormant from late June to early August, and special care is needed at this stage so that they can blossom continuously and blossom "as usual" even if they are dormant.
1. Soil
The geranium bank is suitable for slightly acidic sandy loam with fertile, loose and well-drained soil. Flower friends can change pots from early August to early September every year. In basin soil, rotten leaf soil can be mixed with appropriate amount of sandy soil and rice chaff ash to prepare culture soil, and a small amount of bone powder can be used as base fertilizer.
2. Fertilization
Geraniums prefer to be fat. However, from late June to early August, pelargonium is in a semi-dormant state and should stop fertilizing. In the peak growth period of geranium, diluted flower general organic liquid fertilizer should be applied every 15 days or so. Flowering period can be combined with watering, once a week to apply 500 times diluted general organic fertilizer for flowers.
In addition, if you want to prune the geranium, you can apply fertilizer normally after the cut is dry and shrank for half a month. No fertilizer is applied when the winter temperature is lower than 10 ℃.
3. Moisture
Geraniums like a humid environment, but avoid wet water and are resistant to drought. The soil should be dry rather than wet. Generally, when the leaf tip begins to wither, it must be watered thoroughly. When the growth is exuberant in spring and autumn, it should be watered according to the principle of "watering immediately after drying, watering thoroughly".
The dormant period from late June to early August should be placed on the shady balcony, windowsill or less light shelter in the courtyard to control watering. High temperature, direct sunlight and stagnant water in the basin after rain can affect dormancy and even death of rotten roots. Too much watering will cause leaves to turn yellow, plant growth is poor, can not form robust buds. Therefore, special attention should be paid to watering and drainage.
4. Pruning
To keep blooming, geraniums need to be trimmed three times a year. Thinning branches in March, cutting off fallen flowers and overdense branches in May, and comprehensive pruning of plants from late August to early September combined with changing pots. According to the plant growth, three or five main branches with strong and symmetrical growth near the base were selected, and the other branches were cut off from the base. The main branches and side branches are truncated, leaving only strong lateral buds in each side branch. In order to avoid excessive overgrowth, you can pick the heart and promote more lateral branches and more flowering.
