Due to few leaves and secondary roots in overwintering, weak wheat seedlings are easy to suffer from frost injury, so it is necessary to combine ploughing and loosening soil with 2500 kg of organic fertilizer or 20 kg of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer from the end of December to the first ten days of January of the following year.

Covering cattle and horse manure in weak wheat seedling field can not only increase the ground temperature, protect the root, but also promote the root growth, and improve the fertility for the growth of wheat next spring. The method is: mash the cow and horse dung, sprinkle it on top of the wheat seedlings, and the thickness is 2cm to 3cm. The following year, before the spring wheat turned green, use a bamboo rake to hold cattle and horse dung to the middle of the wheat ridge.

Pouring frozen water can stabilize ground temperature, settle soil, crush bumps, avoid air leakage and freeze roots, promote the formation of strong tillers before winter and enhance the cold resistance of wheat seedlings. Watering should be carried out at a daily average temperature of 2 ℃ ~ 4 ℃, the amount of water should not be too large, and the water potential should not be too fierce, so as to avoid silting and burying seedlings in the soil. After watering, hoes should be used in time to prevent soil consolidation.

The wheat field is covered with "ground cover grass, anti-freezing, water retention and weed suppression." After winter irrigation and fertilization, cover the wheat field with a layer of grass and wheat bran, which is conducive to wind prevention, anti-freezing, heat preservation, preservation of soil moisture, and prevent spring from growing. Wheat straw and rice straw can be chopped and covered and sprinkled with soil to prevent the strong wind from blowing away. After the beginning of spring, the covered grass can be plucked out of the field.

When the frost comes, moist firewood and grass can be lit around the wheat field to create smoke and reduce the heat radiation of the wheat field, which can effectively reduce the freezing injury.
