Only with deep roots can the leaves grow luxuriantly. Without good roots, it is difficult to obtain high yield. In production practice, many vegetable farmers can realize the important role of root system. In recent years, the root problem is becoming more and more prominent, and the dead trees caused by root diseases are becoming more and more serious. However, as for how to maintain the root system and how to reduce the occurrence of root diseases, many vegetable farmers are either confused or apply for medical advice only after the disease occurs, failing to grasp the key points of disease prevention.

What is the most important thing to maintain the root system? The author believes that the most important thing is watering. When it comes to watering, many vegetable farmers feel that it is not worth mentioning. it is too easy to water it when it is dry. There is nothing to say about it. However, there are not many vegetable farmers who can do a good job in such a simple thing. Even if it is the old "style" for decades, it is often difficult to grasp the degree of watering. Many vegetable farmers irrationally watered root retting, light led to plant growth weakening, yield reduction, serious root diseases, the emergence of a large area of dead trees, heavy losses.

Many vegetable farmers have the feeling that root diseases are particularly serious after watering. In fact, the pathogens in the soil have been there all the time, and will not increase greatly because of watering, so why do there are so many diseases after watering? To put it simply, it is not terrible for people to get the flu, it is the complications that are terrible. Similarly, the emergence of retting roots after watering is not terrible, what is terrible is the root diseases caused by it. After watering, the root activity of the plant was weakened due to the lack of oxygen in the soil, especially when the root retting occurred with more watering and stickiness of the soil, the root resistance was greatly weakened, and the pathogens in the soil took the opportunity to infect and cause diseases. It can be said that if there is no retting caused by watering, there will be no large-scale outbreak of root diseases.

When watering, it is necessary to control the amount of watering, so that the water is dry, avoid stagnant water for more than half an hour, and ensure an adequate supply of oxygen in the soil to maintain the roots.

Drip irrigation and other new irrigation methods slowly infiltrate the soil in the form of water droplets, the amount of water per unit time is small, the damage to the soil structure is light, and the amount of irrigation can be controlled at will, so there should not be retting roots. However, in the areas where drip irrigation is widely used, such as Qingzhou City, Shandong Province, the author found that there are many problems in the process of drip irrigation. Drip irrigation generally does not have stagnant water, but it does not mean that there will not be retting roots, still less does it mean that the amount of water can be increased at will. In Heguan Town and Dongxia Town of Qingzhou City, the author encountered drip irrigation and used 40 to 50 kilowatt-hours of electricity to finish watering one mu of shed, which used more water than frozen water on wheat, resulting in serious retting roots such as eggplant and cucumber in the shed, weak growth, low yield and many dead trees.

In addition, it is also important to increase the application of organic fertilizer, improve soil and enhance soil permeability, which can ensure that even if the amount of water is large, it will not cause retting roots due to soil anoxia.
