The Huayan Sutra says: "Buddha earth gives birth to five-colored stems, one flower, one world, and one leaf as the Tathagata." A flower is a world, and a person is a world. Everything has its own Buddha nature, but no one has discovered it. In Buddhism, there is also a saying of "five trees and six flowers". "five trees" refers to high banyan, banyan tree, shellfish palm, betel nut and sugar rice dumplings, while "six flowers" refers to lotus, Wenshulan, turmeric, golden lotus, white orchid and egg flower. Because of their respective forms and history, they have been endowed with profound Buddhist connotations and become sacred flowers of Buddhism. Let's take a look!

Holy Flower of Buddhism

-Lotus-

The lotus is a symbol of Buddhism. It is said that Sakyamuni Buddha practiced the right fruit on the lotus seat of King Kong. The lotus is a sacred and pure flower, which comes out of the mud but does not stain the lotus, which represents that it will not be polluted by unclean things, mental obstacles and mental barriers during reincarnation. But in Sanskrit and Pali Buddhist scriptures, lotus is the general name of lotus and water lily, that is, both represent lotus. The Buddha likes to use the lotus as an analogy. The Dazheng Tibetan scripture says that the lotus has four virtues, one fragrance, two cleanliness, three softness and four loveliness.

Most of the family samples are bowl lotus, which is small and suitable for family care. Bowl lotus should be placed in a sunny environment and grow poorly in shady places. The environment is required to be warm, and the suitable growth temperature is 20-30 ℃, and the growth stagnates when it is lower than 15 ℃. Like wet and afraid of dry, like relatively stable still water. It is appropriate to use rich clay rich in organic matter. The suitable pH value is 6.5. Like water is afraid of flooding, the water is deep and easy to rot leaves, the water should be shallow in the early stage, and gradually deepen in the later stage. Like fertilizer but not resistant to fertilizer, fat weight is easy to rot stem, basic fertilizer should be sufficient, topdressing should be less. It takes about 60 days from planting to flowering.

The maintenance of water lilies is simpler, and compared with bowl lilies, they are more cold-resistant and heat-resistant, and the maintenance is also easier, and beginners can raise them well. Water lilies like strong light and can be maintained all day, with at least 7-8 hours of sunshine every day. There is no shortage of water. 25: 30 ℃ is the most suitable temperature for the growth and development of water lilies, especially in rainy and sunny weather.

-Wenshilan-

Manjushri orchids are beautiful in leaves and have high ornamental value. The whole people of the Dai people in Xishuangbanna believe in Buddhism in the south, and almost every village has Buddhist monasteries, all of which have to be planted with Wenshulan. Wenshulan's name comes from Manjushri Bodhisattva, who sits in a Buddhist temple with a dignified expression and worships good men and women. it is the embodiment of human wisdom.

Wenshulan is not strict with the soil, and the basin soil with loose ventilation and good drainage is the best. Manjusri prefers a humid environment. Keep the basin soil moist during the growing period. Watering can be seen dry and wet, but not stagnant water. Wenshu orchid is suitable for growing in an environment with sufficient light, and should pay attention to shading to prevent sunburn in the middle of summer. Wenshulan prefers warmth and is not resistant to cold. The suitable temperature for growth is 15-20 ℃. In winter, it is necessary to spend the winter indoors at a temperature of not less than 5 ℃. Usually, you can fertilize phosphorus and potassium fertilizer 2-3 times a month, and the flowers bloom for a long time.

-turmeric flower-

Turmeric blossoms have a light fragrance and are comfortable and pleasant. Buddhism attaches great importance to aroma and often uses it as a metaphor for the virtue of spiritual practice. Incense must also be used when worshiping Buddha and Bodhisattva. Turmeric flower with rich smell is one of the flowers offered to worship.

Turmeric flower is resistant to cold and drought, barren and likes warm and humid climate. Generally choose loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil, the suitable growth temperature is 25-32 ℃, like the environment with sufficient light, the rhizome is fleshy, not resistant to water flooding, usually watering should not be dry, watering is thoroughly.

-Jinlian, Tei Chung-

It is said that when the Buddha was born, the golden lotus was born at every step, that is, the golden lotus in the earth. The flowering period of Jinlian in Diyong is longer, which can reach about 250 days. The six bracts are in a whorl, terminal or axillary, glittering in the shape of petals, gradually spreading from the bottom up, just like a blooming lotus. And Di Yong Jinlian first flowers and then leaves, suddenly emerged from the ground when blooming in early spring, quietly blooming, surprising, so there is the name of "Di Yong Jinlian".

Jinlian in Diyong prefers a warm environment with plenty of light. Generally choose fertile, loose and breathable basin soil, watering should be dry and wet in the growing season, and apply thin pancake fertilizer and water about 1 to 2 times a month. Not resistant to low temperature, below 0 ℃, the aboveground part will be frozen.

-White orchids-

The Burmese sweet-scented osmanthus in the holy flower is the white orchid, which is white and fragrant with thick green leaves. During the blooming season, people often string them together and wear them on their chest to express their pious devotion to the Buddha.

White orchids like acidic soil and are required to be cultivated in acid soil with good ventilation and drainage. Magnolia magnolia is a positive flower and needs plenty of sunshine, which should not be less than 6 hours a day. But summer should be properly shaded to prevent sunburn. White orchid belongs to fleshy root, the basin soil is too wet, the leaves will wither and fall off, and even the rotten roots will die, and if they are too dry, they will wither and roll the leaves. Generally, the topsoil can be watered after it is dry. White orchids like to be warm and afraid of cold, and the winter temperature should not be lower than 5 ℃.

Egg flower is widely planted as one of the "five trees and six flowers" in Buddhist monasteries, so it is also known as "temple tree" or "tower tree". The egg blossom petals are like the egg white of a cooked egg wrapped in egg yolk, which is very special.

Egg flower is a positive tree species, sexual preference for high temperature, moist and sunny environment. But it can also grow in a semi-shady environment, but the branches grow only in a shady environment, with few or no leaves, while yellow egg blossoms grow aerial roots on the branches in a shady and humid environment. The acid sandy loam soil which is deep, fertile, permeable and rich in organic matter is the best soil for egg flower planting.

Egg flower is resistant to drought, avoid waterlogging and has good stress resistance. However, drought is not conducive to plant development, serious poor growth; waterlogging is easy to cause root rot. Egg flower has poor cold tolerance, and the most suitable temperature for growth is 20-26 ℃. It is vulnerable to chilling injury when it is lower than 8 ℃ for a long time during overwintering. In the vast cities and towns south of the Tropic of Cancer in China, open-field cultivation can generally survive the winter safely; in central and North China, it is only suitable to plant in pots and enter the greenhouse in winter to survive the winter.
