Watermelon consumes a lot of water during the whole growth period, but it requires dry air and high soil water content. The requirement of soil moisture is lower in the seedling stage, slightly higher in the vine stage, and the highest demand in the fruit expansion stage. When the water supply is insufficient during the fruit expansion period, the yield and quality of the fruit will be affected. Watermelon root development needs more soil oxygen content, not resistant to waterlogging, irrigation will reduce root activity, and even cause rotten roots. Irrigation should be stopped about 1 month before harvest and 3 to 5 days before and after heavy rain, so as not to affect the quality and root damage of watermelon.
