Watermelon has strong branching ability. In order to reduce the waste of nutrients, control the vegetative growth of plants, and reduce the occurrence of diseases and insect pests, it is often necessary to prune and cut off some branches and vines, except for sparse planting, watermelons in dry land, etc., do not do or simplify pruning. The commonly used methods are double-vine pruning and three-vine pruning. Double vine pruning is in addition to the main vine, choose a strong side vine at the base, the rest of the side vine is removed, the main vine and side vine parallel forward or opposite direction growth, or the main vine heart, leaving the base of the two strong side vines parallel growth. The pruning of the three vines is based on the retention of the main vine and then two strong lateral vines are selected at the base of the plant or the main vine, and the other lateral vines are removed in time.
