If you want to look at the sex of the goldfish, a more reliable way is to observe the characteristics of its abdomen. If you turn the goldfish over, you can see the reproductive mastoid located in front of the anus. The reproductive mastoid of the male fish is sharp and thin, while that of the female fish is large and round. This is the most correct way to distinguish, but there is usually a superficial method of discrimination, that is, judging by the appearance of the same species of goldfish, the abdomen of males is generally smaller than that of females, while the body color of males is much brighter than that of females. In addition, the fins of males are also longer than females.

Goldfish have a certain birth cycle, and usually environmental factors dominate the gonad development of goldfish through endocrinology. For China, spring is the main breeding period of goldfish, because when spring comes, the daytime sunshine is getting longer and longer. Goldfish brain drop will secrete a hormone that stimulates the gonads, which makes the female eggs mature day by day, and the male sperm become active one after another. Gonads produce hormones to stimulate the fish, resulting in secondary sexual characteristics, which is the best way to distinguish between males and females. For example, male fish will chase stars during the breeding season, while females do not.

The star pursuit of male fish is a secondary characteristic that can be easily identified. there are many small white grains on the first fin of its Gill cover and pectoral fin, and sometimes even the scales around the eyes and behind the fin cover. When you catch a male with your hand, you will obviously feel its rough star chase, and the more stars it appears, the more frantically it will chase the female ready to spawn.

Judging from the appearance, the abdomen of the female fish during the breeding period is dilated and more round. Another way is to rub hard back along the belly of the goldfish, if the flow is white liquid, it is the male, on the other hand, if you discharge a string of yellowish eggs, it must be the female.
