Because the immunoglobulin in colostrum is inhaled into the blood through the intestinal wall in an undigested state, the immunoglobulin entering the blood has immune effect. Subsequently, the permeability of the intestinal wall decreases, and large protein molecules cannot enter the blood through the intestinal wall. this phenomenon is called intestinal wall atresia or intestinal mucosal epithelial contraction. The absorption rate of immunoglobulin in calves is as high as 50% at birth, with little or no absorption 24 to 36 hours after birth. So calves have to eat and eat enough colostrum on the first day after birth. It is better to feed colostrum for the first time as soon as possible, usually within 1 hour after birth. Calves are fed when they can stand by themselves.
