Fish and insects grow in large numbers in fat ponds and ditches near urban suburbs, villages and towns and bazaars. When spring comes, when the water temperature rises above 10 ℃, fish and insects begin to reproduce and grow; when the water temperature rises to 18 ℃, fish and insects multiply and grow rapidly. From spring to summer, especially in the middle of summer, the environmental conditions are good, and fish and insects multiply quickly. In some ditches and pits, red insects form large groups when they flourish, and a dense red layer can be seen on the water surface in the early morning. It gradually decreases at the end of autumn. The growth and decline of the number of fish and insects is closely related to the season, water temperature, light and the content of nutrients in the water. Different species of fish and insects have different requirements for these conditions. Therefore, there are different kinds of growth and decline in different regions and different seasons. Experienced people can correctly grasp and apply these natural laws, choose the right place and time to fish, so as to obtain a large number of fish and insects.

The seasonality of fish and insect reproduction and growth is particularly obvious, and the growth is also very fast. In general, the temperature is still low in early spring, and copepods mainly grow in the water; when the temperature rises in late spring, Cladocera begins to multiply; after entering summer, the water temperature rises rapidly, rotifers and Cladocera propagate rapidly, and it is easier to catch at this time. After summer showers, fish and insects can often be seen in puddles in rural roadside wasteland and in urban roadside pits. Can go to pit ponds, lakes and other places to catch a large number of fish and insects, after sun-dried processing, sold as commodities for family breeding ornamental fish bait, but also for some export. In autumn, the autumn rain continues, the temperature gradually drops, the number of rotifers decreases, and the yield decreases; when the winter temperature continues to decrease, Cladocera further decreases, only a small amount of copepods can be harvested.

In addition to the seasonal variation of the number of fish and insects, there is also a law of rise and fall day and night. From night to dawn, they move from the deep water layer to the surface water layer, which is very obvious in the puddles and river ditches where fish and insects thrive. By dawn, they all rise to the top and surface of the water. Within 1-2 hours after sunrise, they move toward the underwater layer and return to the deep water layer. If the number of fish and insects is small, this rule is not obvious. According to analysis, the main reason for this kind of diurnal rise and fall and diving at night is the lack of dissolved oxygen in the water body. The large population of red insects consumes a lot of oxygen, and it is difficult for them to evacuate when they are crowded together, and the dissolved oxygen in the lower water body is reduced to a minimum at dawn. Therefore, in the peak season of red insects from June to August, red insects are still concentrated on the surface of the water a few hours after sunrise. As long as we understand the living habits of red insects, such as sunset rising, sunrise and diving, we can catch a large number of fish and insects by going to pit ponds, lakes and other places before and after dawn.
