Taxonomic status: Cyprinidae, Cyprinidae, Aristichthys
Morphological features: the side of the body is flat, the ventral edge is incomplete. The head is large, and its length is about 1 big 3 of body length. The pectoral fin is long and the end is far beyond the base of the ventral fin. Dorsal fin iii-7; anal fin iii-12~13; lateral linear scale 96x110. The back and upper side of the body are dark, with irregular black spots, and the lower side of the body and abdomen are grayish white.
Ecological habits: filter-feeding fishes that inhabit the middle and upper layers of water. Mild-tempered, fast-growing and easy to catch.
Geographical distribution: originated in the Yangtze River system. It was introduced into Ningxia in the 1950s.
Economic value: one of the leading species of aquaculture in Ningxia.
