Morphological features: the body is flattened on the side, and the outline is in the shape of a diamond. The chest is flat. The ventral edge is incomplete. The head is short. The mouth is small and the kiss is relatively round and blunt, so it is defined as blunt snout bream. The tail handle is short and its length is equal to or less than the height of the tail handle. The pectoral fins are relatively short. Dorsal fin iii-7; anal fin iii-26~29; lateral linear scale 50-60. The body is grayish black with grayish-white vertical lines.

Ecological habits: living in the middle and lower layers of the water body covered with water and plants, it is a herbivorous omnivorous fish. The compound feed can be eaten under the condition of artificial feeding. The sexual maturity of 2 ~ 3 years old is about 500g, and the breeding period is 5 ~ 6 months.

Distribution: originated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, it is a specialty of Liangzi Lake in Hubei Province. Introduced into Ningxia in the 1980s, it is the main breeding species in ponds and lakes in Ningxia.

Economic value: due to the delicious meat, moderate individual size, suitable for consumers' eating habits, high economic value.
