Morphological features: the side of the body is flat, the back is slightly thick, spindle-shaped, and the body is covered with fine scales. The lower jaw is slightly protruding and the medial side of the upper and lower jaw is covered with serrated keratinization. The mouth is large, with villous sharp teeth. Dorsal fin IX,I-13~14; anal fin Ⅲ-9; lateral linear scale 62-63. The body color is light gold with black.

Ecological habits: the survival water temperature is 2: 34 ℃, the optimum temperature is 15: 25 ℃, and the dissolved oxygen is above 4mg/L. Carnivorous fish, ferocious, predatory, fish, shrimp, insects as the food, when the lack of bait will eat each other. In artificial feeding, in addition to eating miscellaneous fish, they also eat compound bait.

Geographical distribution: native to American freshwater waters. It was introduced into Ningxia in the 1990s.

Economic value: strong disease resistance, low temperature tolerance, fast growth, short culture cycle, high economic value.
