Characteristics of Landrace Pig
Landrace pig, which originated in Denmark, is a world-famous lean pig breed. The main advantages are large litter size, rapid growth and development, feed saving, high carcass lean percentage, but poor stress resistance and high requirements for feed nutrition. China began to introduce the first batch of Landrace pigs from Sweden in 1964. At present, there are British, French, Belgian, Xindan and other strains of Landrace pigs in China. Landrace pigs are often used as the first male or female parent of three-way crossbred (du Landrace) pigs in production. Among the existing Landrace pig lines, the hybrid progenies of French and Xindan lines grow fast and have high feed reward, while Belgian progenies have better body shape and high lean meat rate.
