Characteristics of Petland Pig

Pigs, native to Belgium, are grayish white with irregular dark black spots and occasional brown fur. Their bodies are rounded and their muscles are plump. The main characteristics are high lean meat percentage. But the weight gain is slow and the stress is obvious. Because of its high lean meat percentage, it is often used as male parent for binary or ternary hybridization. In order to avoid stress reactions, it is often crossed with Duroc or Yorkshire sows to produce piddu or pidda binary boars as terminal paternal parents in commercial farms.
