Sugar cane is crisp, sweet and delicious, but have you ever seen sugarcane bloom? Do you know how sugarcane is planted?
Growing sugarcane is a rare thing for friends in the north, but it should be common for friends in the south. How on earth is sugarcane planted? I'll just have a chat with you here.
Sugarcane seed
In fact, sugarcane is not planted with seeds or seedlings, but can be planted with the stalks of sugarcane itself. isn't it amazing? If you take a closer look at the sugarcane you buy, you will find that there is a triangular bud at the nodule of each section of sugarcane, which can actually germinate. However, because this part of the water is not enough, and it is too wasteful to use it as a seed bud.
Therefore, fruit growers generally choose the head of sugarcane, that is, the buds at the top, as seed buds. First of all, this part is relatively poor in sweetness, so it does not have much commercial value, and this part of the bud is relatively tender and watery, and it is easier to sprout when planted in the ground. So the sugar cane we eat usually grows from this part.
At this point, someone may ask, "will sugar cane blossom and bear fruit in the end?"
Sugarcane will naturally blossom and bear fruit. However, because the origin of sugarcane is in South Asia, that is, India, where the latitude is relatively low and the temperature is high, sugarcane is easier to blossom and bear fruit in such an environment. In some parts of China, such as Hainan and Yunnan, sugarcane blossoms occasionally occur when the temperature is high, but it is rare to want sugarcane to bear fruit.
Sugarcane flowers are a bit like Reed flowers, gray, with a fluffy feeling.
But the flowering of sugarcane is not a good thing. Because we all know that sugarcane is loved because it is sweet, but once sugarcane blossoms, nutrition will be supplied to the flowers of sugarcane to let them bear fruit, so that the sweetness of the stem of sugarcane will be greatly affected. Therefore, farmers generally harvest sugarcane without waiting for sugarcane to blossom, so it is very difficult to see sugarcane bloom under normal circumstances. Only some specialized sugarcane research institutes will make sugarcane blossom and bear fruit in order to better study sugarcane varieties.
Having talked so much about the flowering of sugarcane, let's talk about how sugarcane is planted.
Time and seedlings
Sugarcane is generally planted in spring and autumn. Spring is usually from February to April, and autumn is usually planted from the end of August to the end of September.
The species of sugarcane can generally be purchased, or you can keep them at home, and some local governments will issue some sugarcane seeds. Ploughing the field before planting, preferably deep ploughing, and then drying the land is more conducive to the growth of sugarcane in the later stage.
Field management
In addition, fertilizer and water will be the most important during the growing period of sugarcane. First of all, talk about fertilizer, fertilizer must be enough, so that sugar cane can grow well and taste sweeter. The base fertilizer must be adequate. Generally, 1500 kilograms of organic fertilizer is needed for one mu of land, and then about 20 kilograms of compound fertilizer is needed. In addition, there is a great demand for phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in the process of sugarcane growth, and the demand for nitrogen fertilizer is slightly less.
During the growing period of sugarcane, the law of water demand is "more in the middle, less at both ends". That is to say, the water demand of sugarcane in seedling stage and late mature stage is relatively less, and the water demand of sugarcane in the elongation stage is relatively large. So growers should take advantage of it reasonably.
In addition, attention should be paid to weeding and pest control in the field.
The above comes from promoting agriculture through science.
