Lianzi is a herbivorous wild animal of the subfamily Cervidae, which is relatively common in the northeast forest region. It likes to eat the twigs, buds, leaves and all kinds of grass, small berries and mushrooms of shrubs, generally composed of a family group of female roe deer and its offspring, usually 3-5, dusk activities, grass, mushrooms, berries as food, male roe deer only join the group in mid-summer.

Northeastern people jokingly call Yuanzi "silly Yuzi", because he is so curious that he always stops to see what happens when he sees something, and even if the pursuer suddenly shouts out, he will stop and watch, so if an experienced hunter misses a shot, he will not chase after the runaway Yuzi, because he often runs back to the original place for a period of time to see what has just happened. It is really "curiosity that kills the roe deer".

The male roe deer chased the female roe deer to run in circles during the breeding period, and a wreath-shaped footprint appeared on the ground. The gestation period was 8 months. Before giving birth, the female roe deer dispersed the young roe deer born last year and gave birth in the dense forest. The young roe deer were born in March-6 months, with 1-2 babies each. If a baby gave birth to 2 babies, the place of birth was 10-20 meters apart. After 10 days of birth, the mother led the newborn roe deer back to the group and sexually matured for 1.5-2 years. Bark when startled, in the wild, the life span is 10-12 years, the longest is 17 years, the horn falls off from November to December every year, the antler is born from February to March, and the horn grows from April to May.

It has been listed in the list of beneficial terrestrial wildlife under state protection or of important economic and scientific research value, and it was issued and implemented by decree No. 7 of the State Forestry Administration on August 1, 2000. Any act of hunting and trapping is illegal, and it is strictly forbidden to hunt, buy, sell or eat wild turnips.
